The dates of Jay-Z and Eminem's set of upcoming Detroit and New York baseball stadium shows have been revealed.
The first of two shows will take place in Detroit in late July.
The two titans of the hip-hop world attended Wednesday night's New York-Detroit game at Comerica Park to announce they'd be playing at the Yankees' ballpark on Sept. 13. Eleven days earlier, though, Jay-Z will be back in the Motor City to play with Eminem at the latter's hometown ballpark, Comerica. They made the announcement during appearances on several television broadcasts of Wednesday night's game. (Associated Press)
Eminem described the excitement of the upcoming show dates.
"This is a once in a lifetime set of shows and I know we're both really going to bring it to our hometowns," Eminem said at Comerica Park. "The fans are going to love this -- and so am I. It's gonna be historic." (Rolling Stone)
Jay also welcomed in his anticipation for the performances.
"These shows are like a dream come true. I've always hoped that hip-hop could play any stadium like other genres of music," Jay-Z added. "How perfect is it that Eminem and I get to play our hometowns and show how far the live rap experience has come? Fun and historic, a great combination all around the board." Jay-Z is no stranger to playing Yankee Stadium: The rapper and Alicia Keys performed Blueprint 3's "Empire State of Mind" at the new House That Ruth Built during the Yankees' World Series run last season. Speculation on the performances began to develop yesterday afternoon.
The late-summer blockbuster is part of a two-show stand that will include a date at New York's Yankee Stadium -- a home-and-home series for Detroit's Eminem and New York's Jay-Z. The two will announce the dates during the third inning of tonight's game between the Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees at Comerica Park, to be aired on ESPN. They warmed up for the appearance at about 6 p.m. today, wearing their respective teams' ball caps and posing with Tigers players on the Comerica field. (Detroit Free Press)
