The Neptunes' Pharrell Williams recently talked about working with Jay-Z and why he has been sworn to secrecy about speaking on their upcoming collaboration.
Along with Jay, the hitmaker also spoke on his experience working on Game's R.E.D. Album.
"The guy is 40 and had a #1 record, and he sold more records than anybody in hip-hop at the time his album came out. And it's still selling. The one thing we're allowed to say [about our new collaboration] is he and I said that we're sworn to secrecy...[With Game,] it was crazy, because you walk in the studio and it's 15 to 20 7-foot dudes. All of his friends are giants. I'm in there like 'Webster.' Like Emmanuel Lewis, looking up at everybody like, 'Yeah, OK, cool.' It was kinda otherworldly. Except me and my engineer, we're the only two regular humans. These guys are like giants. But the most creative sessions ever." (MTV)
Earlier this year, Jay said his work on a Blueprint III follow-up would not begin until after his winter tour concluded.
Mr. Carter tells The Associated Press that he has started thinking about his twelfth studio album. "Maybe after I finish [the 'BP3'] tour I'll start another album," he reveals, adding, "Maybe at the end of the year. We'll see if the inspiration hits me." But for now, he's concentrating on perfecting the second leg of his arena tour. "I've been working on my live show for 10 years now, just trying to get it better and better. I used to come out with just a DJ, now I got a band. The production's gotten bigger and the lighting guy takes off his shoes and he plays to the beat," he laughs. "The whole thing is being upgraded every single year." (Rap-Up)
Pharrell reportedly split producing time on Game's record with Dr. Dre.
"When we talk, it's just life check up. It was never about music. Until the day came where he'd ask if I wanna work, or 'Let's get into the studio', it wasn't for me to bring up," Game said. It was reported by MTV that Dre would executive produce Game's upcoming LP alongside Pharrell, but when we spoke with the rapper last week, he said Pharrell has the title all on his own. Still waiting for confirmation on this. Dr. Dre, however, is confirmed for a guest spot on the album, but it's still unknown how many, or if, he'll have any production credits. Stay tuned... Game has also addressed dropping on the same day as Drake's Thank Me Later debut.
"Nah man, it's just a package deal, you should go and support hip-hop, go get Thank Me Later and go grab R.E.D. and you good," Game said in an interview. "You know you're good, then the next week you come back and buy Eminem, great. June is gonna be a big month. So no, it's no competition. Everything don't gotta be a competition and we're not even the same type of [artist,] we're not in the same lane. I respect what he does and I talked to him before, he's a fan of mine so we'll just keep it like that and put it out, people will go and buy them and who cares who's number one, number two, it don't make no sense to me because I've been around and sold millions of records already. I have nothing else to prove." (Rap-Up TV)
