Rap veteran Nas recently talked about regretting a chance to collaborate with Raekwon for the rapper's long-awaited 2009 release, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2.
Although Nas has not spoken with Rae, he feels a future duet is probable.
"It's been no discussions," Nas said about appearing on Rae's new project. "You know how the music game is. Everybody is out there grindin', making music. But his last album was classic. I definitely wish I was on that piece. So yeah, something in the future is definitely likely. That'll be good...I talked to a lot of people I really like about my next project. But there's no one sitting there doing my album right now that I could speak of...This record here [Distant Relatives], I think it's gonna push me and [Damian Marley] in our solo projects. I think any record we do, it's gotta live up to this record. It's gotta be as good or better. We set the standard with this album. I'm just excited about this record right now." (MTV)
Last summer, Rae said Nas was originally willing to be a part of the album.
"He committed to it," Rae told Mixtape Daily. "I knew dude be busy. However it goes down, it's cool with me. My thing is, I sacrificed to even ask because of the fans. But if dudes be too busy in their own minds, they don't have to do it. Because Rae continues to do Rae anyway. Y'all came to see me. It's the Rae show anyway." (MTV)
The project opened to a strong debut last September.
Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon has returned to store shelves with his long-delayed Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Part 2 landing at No. 4. The Chef's new album has sold a total of 67,900 records after one week on store shelves. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
In August 2009, Rae spoke on his respect toward Nas and Jay-Z.
"I know them from meeting them guys out once or twice and Nas I know a little bit more because we came in the game around the same time," Raekwon said in an interview. "Jay I met before. Jay is a cool dude when he wants to be. Everybody has a certain amount of respect for one another when they see 'em at the moment but I never really hung out with dudes like that to really know them like that. But it was ways that they said, 'Yeah, you know, you're ill.' Whether they looked at me a certain kind of way or they just walked up and said 'What up?' that's how Jay came at me one day. Like 'Yo, this is back in the day, I respect you.' And I was like, 'Yo, thank-you man, much respect back.' So you know at the end of the day, we all in competition and all competitors, but it's a certain amount of respect still that New York rappers are gonna give to each other in this time.
