For this week, Grammy-winning rapper Rhymefest has sat down with SOHH to talk about everything, from what happened to the Chi-Town movement to his thoughts on Little Brother putting out their final album together. In this third installment, Fest explains that he's waiting to see more before he co-signs Nicki Minaj.
I think Nicki Minaj can rap. It's like asking, can she rap? Yes. Now does she have a future in hip-hop? H*ll yeah.
But the thing about Nicki is it's just that I don't know much about her. I don't know what her personality is at this point. For me, I like to like a rapper as a person. Like I thought as a person Tupac Shakur, his persona shined through him. Or like even with Lauryn Hill, her aura shines through her raps and I'm just trying to get past what's on the radio.
When Nicki Minaj's album comes out, will I be able to see who she is? Can I see what she is through her art? And that's what I'm waiting on, so for right now I can't really make a complete observation at this point from what I've heard.
For right now, all I can say is man, she's dope. I like artists like Queen Latifah where their aura shines through so for right now we'll have to wait and see what happens with Nicki Minaj. ---as told to Senior News Writer Cyrus Langhorne
