Southern rapper Jeezy has reflected on Lil Boosie's current four-year jail sentence and said the incarcerated emcee was on top of the music game before getting placed behind bars.
From Jeezy's perspective, hip-hop artists tend to become victims of success.
"I sit back and I just think, that the lil' homie [Lil' Boosie] is sitting there in a cell but he was on top of the world," Jeezy said in an interview. "In his lil' world in Lousiana he was that n*gga. I used to tell him all the time your moves are big! And I done went down there and hung out with him in the club in the streets and everything, I done been in his hood and everything, so to me, it's a sad thing to see...So you know, it just come with the territory, man, but it's just hard, dog, I used to hear cats like 8Ball & MJG, Pac, all of them rap about what it used to be like [when you get successful] and say what the h*ll? It can't be that bad. Oh, it is. I see it now...If you ever listen to everybody's second or third albums, it's pretty much the same story: 'these n*ggas tripping.' I'm the same n*gga. I don't think you change, I just think the things around you change." (VIBE)
Last December, Boosie associate Hurricane Chris talked with SOHH about the rapper's jail time.
"I just did a mixtape with Boosie, [it's called] Bad Azz Hurricane. I'm about to put that into the streets.I wanna get that out circulating while my dog is behind bars, free Boosie. Yeah, you know that's my family," Hurricane said about Boosie. "I call everyday to make sure everybody be good you know so when he comes home everything will be love. Everything will be there for my dog to get on the streets, 51/50, it's a Louisiana thing right here. We family, we eat together, we get it on, we get it on!" (SOHH)
Boosie spoke out against having to do a stint rather than going to rehab for a drug conviction last fall.
"They're treating me on who they think I am," Boosie said in an interview. "They judging me on Boosie Bad Azz, not Torrence Hatch...If I made a mistake with marijuana, why am I not eligible for rehab? I've been on marijuana since a teenager. I need some rehab. Jail is not rehab." (WAFB News)
The rapper was handed his sentence in Louisiana.
District Court Judge Chip Moore revoked Hatch's probation, sending him straight to jail. Hatch was on house arrest with an ankle monitor. The monitor indicated that on more than one occasion, Hatch had violated the terms of his release. Judge Moore doubled Hatch's original sentence and ordered him to spend four years in prison.
