Grammy-winning rapper Eminem has begun to stir up speculation about Relapse 2 with a Twitter announcement promising "big news."
Em's mysterious Tweet was posted late Monday (March 29) night and was his first since February.
Just over a year ago, Eminem revealed his comeback plans with the announcement of two albums set for 2009, Relapse and Relapse 2. While Slim Shady delivered on Relapse, its follow-up was postponed from the second half of '09 to TBA 2010 to make way for his Relapse: Refill reissue late last year. However, Eminem made a rare appearance on Twitter yesterday to give fans a message -- "Don't worry. Some big news is coming. Soon" -- perhaps hinting that there may finally be some movement on the Relapse 2 front. (Rolling Stone)
Earlier this month, D12's Bizarre said Eminem recruited his hometown rap crew for the upcoming Relapse 2 album.
"We're still recording the third album, and we just finished a song on Relapse 2 for Marshall's album," Bizarre said via phone. Tentatively titled "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," Bizarre says the collaboration shows that despite major losses such as the death of co-founding member Proof, nothing can keep the group down. "We're still family, but everybody's got their own situations going on," he added. "No matter what y'all do, you can't hold D12 down. We've been through a lot of shit, but we're still gonna come back and recover." (Hip Hop DX)
Last year, the rapper spoke on D12's forthcoming group record.
"Everybody's in D12 and we're doing good," Bizarre told radio personality Jenny Boom Boom. "[A new album] is definitely going to happen. We're working on it right now, Marshall Mathers is coming out first with Relapse...I'm on Eminem's album...I'm recording a couple of songs. Big up to Dr. Dre." (Jenny Boom Boom TV)
D12's Mr. Porter previously revealed his involvement on Em's Relapse follow-up.
"This will be the first time I'm producing songs for Em under me without D12," he explained in an interview. "That's big for me. I can't let the cat out the bag yet, but one of the songs is told as if we were back in the day...The reason he's good is not because being white worked to his advantage. It did a little at first, but all day everyday the kid is writing. I don't know if Jay-Z is writing all day. He owns multi-million dollar businesses. Em writes all day. Jay probably comes up with lines [and] that make him one of the greatest. I'm fighting, because Just Blaze came in and kicked a**." (All Hip Hop)
A release date for Relapse 2 has not yet been confirmed.
