Phonte recently said the project was initially planned to be released as an EP.
"I didn't want our last record to be a bunch of second-rate material," Phonte explained. "I wanted to walk away from Little Brother knowing that I gave our fans all that I had to give, and said everything I wanted to say. With LeftBack, I've done that." (Press Release)
Big Pooh added that there will also be multiple music videos for the album.
"Three albums, three mixtapes, one video. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense in this day and age," Pooh said. "We have always lacked in the visual department, and I think it will be refreshing to finally offer the people those visuals." The album will include four official music videos, all shot and directed by Matt Koza. There will also be a limited-release DVD included with initial pressings of the album that documents Little Brother on tour as well as features archived footage of the group throughout its career. The duo have released three albums over the past seven years.
In 2003, Little Brother released its full-length debut, The Listening, which won widespread critical praise that focused especially on 9th Wonder's production. The buzz helped him earn a raft of high-profile outside gigs, including tracks on a pair of multi-platinum releases: The Black Album by Jay-Z and Destiny Fulfilled by Destiny's Child. Little Brother leapt to a major label (along with ABB) in 2005 for The Minstrel Show. In January 2007, as the group was finishing up their next release, Getback, it was announced that Little Brother had left Atlantic and that 9th Wonder had amicably left Little Brother. (All Music)
LeftBack will be released on Tuesday, April 20.
