Rap mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs was one of five black entertainers recognized for his accomplishments in urban culture at last night's BET Honors ceremony.

The program paid homage to a variety of celebrities in their own respective fields.

The show, hosted by Gabrielle Union, recognized the accomplishments of Whitney Houston (Entertainment), Queen Latifah (Media), and Sean "Diddy" Combs (Entrepreneur), as well as renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Keith Black (Public Service) and educator Dr. Ruth Simmons (Education). In addition to musical highlights, the show recognized the recent devastation in earthquake-ravaged Haiti, and called on viewers to help if they can, also referencing BET's own initiatives. Diddy explained the importance of being honored during his speech.

"I've won a lot of awards before, but I've never been honored," he told the crowd. "And being honored, it feels totally different. Especially to be honored by your people, thank-you very much. I'm truly humble, there's a lot of people out there that know my story but there's a lot of people out there that don't. My father was killed when I was three years old so my mother, like millions of black mothers in America, she was a single mother of two raising a family on her own." (BET Honors 2010)

BET Honors 2010 was also highlighted with multiple performances.

Apart from the awards that were given out, the event turned out to be an immensely entertaining experience for all the viewers as it showcased stunning performances by a host of celebrities. One of the highlights of the event was the mesmerizing performance displayed by Jennifer Hudson, who sang a soulful rendition of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You", that managed to win the hearts of the audiences. Other notable performances of the evening were given by Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder, Indie Arie, Ryan Leslie and many more. (Thaindian News)
