Konvict Muzik labelhead Akon has revealed how he helped save Grammy-winning pop star Lady Gaga's career when she was on the verge of being dropped from her record deal.
According to the rapper/singer, Gaga is helping break the barrier between pop and rap music.
"I think what everybody else didn't," Akon said about Gaga. "She had went through like four or five labels. When I closed my deal at Interscope, she was getting dropped that week ... they was dropping her again. I was like 'Yo, I wanna sign that right there.' Jimmy [Iovine] was like 'Yeah, whatever you want, take her. Let's get it done.' She's blossomed into a super-mega star. She's pretty much retired me. She was definitely a blessing. She came at the right moment. I'm glad I believed in her, boy. That goes to show, if you believe in something good -- it will pay off." (Associated Press)
Akon will reportedly feature the singer on his upcoming album, Stadium.
Last time we caught up with hip-hop star Akon,he was in Miami recording songs for his new album, Stadium. He calls the record, which is slated for an April or May release, "high energy.'' "It's going to be big,'' he says. "I'm on a whole other level right now. My life is bright, and you'll hear it on the album." Expect cameos from his protege and Konvict Muzik artist Lady Gaga and David Guetta (who co-produced three of the tracks). (Miami Herald)
He previously spoke with SOHH about allowing his artists like T-Pain to step in front of the limelight.
"Me, I'm the trainer and the manager," Kon told SOHH. "I will book the show and T-Pain will lead the rings. He leads the ring period. I just over look the tent. I put the tent up and then I allow you to go in there and showcase your art. I know my place, they know they place and that's why we are successful and we continue to move forward. One thing I'm never going to do is try to jump in front of his shine." (SOHH)
Gaga's popularity within hip-hop was recently ignited when she was tagged to headline a "Fame Kills" tour with Kanye West last year.
Gaga says they will use a new stage that stretches from one side of the arena to the other - "imagine an in-the-round experience, but larger," Gaga said. While she was typically coy about revealing too many details about the tour, she did say that she and West would "spend a lot of time onstage together." Gaga also provided a look inside the notion behind the show - and, for fans of the flamboyantly bizarre singer, the high-concept show sounds as though it will be unlikely to disappoint. "The storyline is that Kanye is on one end of the stage and I'm on the other, and the whole show, we are trying to get to where each other is," she said. "I want something that he has, which is the fame, and he wants something that I have, which is home, and my humble beginnings. So we battle each other throughout the entire performance to steal each other's spaces." "So I'm essentially on a quest to kill Kanye West to steal his fame." (Canadian Press)
