Rapper Skillz recently decided to highlight last year's most talked about incidents in a music video for his Rap Up 2009" track.

Director Derek Pike said the video was shot in mid-Janaury.

"Last week I did the Skillz '09 Rap Up' video," he wrote in a posting. "In this record Skillz references to many different people and events that were in the media this past year, so the challenge with this video was coming up with a concept that would tie everything together. I felt that creating a 'Skillz' gossip magazine would make a lot of sense for this. Despite the cold, and a parking ticket the shoot went smoothly. Shout out to everyone that came through, Evan Wunsch, Andy Vaval, Dan Dealy, Sound H, Gerald Vaughan aka Tiger, Cassidy Gard aka Elin Nordegren, and of course Kat Kallergis on the Steadicam." Late last month, Skillz spoke on putting the track together.

"As long as people want me to do it, I'mma do it," Skillz revealed to radio host Jenny Boom Boom. "[I began] the 15th of the month. I usually start right after Thanksgiving but like I said, I went out of the country, I was out of the country for a while and you know, I was just trying to get my thoughts together and when I came home, I was just formulating how it was gonna go and when I was gonna leak it. I was in the UK, me and Jazzy Jeff...You can get [the song] on iTunes, it should be available on iTunes -- I appreciate the people that like the song. It's a good song, it's a funny song and I think it works so well because it's actually what people are thinking, they're just not used to hearing it how I say it." ("Jenny Boom Boom")

The song debuted in December 2009 and discussed top stories including the Chris Brown and Rihanna domestic dispute.

"50 and Rick Ross, that's a new level of beef," Skillz raps, "LeBron [James] got dunked on and he ain't want us to see it/The news of Chris and Rihanna broke into the streets/T-Pain got on to that golf cart and broke some teeth/Tiny and Toya got a show, that's crazy/Tiny, you gonna get a new season, 'Yeaah baby,' -- Rick Ross shades was phony and fake/Enter a newcomer by the name of Drake/The industry gotta get it in gear/Because it's bad when a mixtape is really album of the year..Eminem and Mariah seemed bitter, and we all took to this little thing called Twitter...Chris Brown -- now that's my guy, but how he do an interview and all y'all notice was the bow tie/The media went hard, Chris you want us to forget just say what really happened in the car/Rihanna, she kept quiet, until she had an album to sell but we still ain't buy it/Mike Vick and A.I. -- back in action and we were shocked by the loss of Mr. Michael Jackson..." The record marks his latest since beginning the trend eight years years ago.

Since the year 2002, the rapper has done year end wrap up track which brings all of the major events that occurred within the year from politics, national and international news and, of course, the music industry. Looking back at what was 2009, things may have had their sour points, but one can only keep his/her head held high for the endless possibilities that could be 2010. (Hip Hop Wired)
