Ruff Ryders' Drag-On recently spoke with SOHH about his predictions for the new year and why the spotlight will be on his forthcoming record label launch.
According to Drag, the main focus is getting Hood Environment into motion.
"I predict my next album to do well," Drag explained to SOHH. "I know I can definitely predict, [this] year, I'm gonna be launching my record label and getting my record label really off this ground, you know what I'm saying? Everybody is loving it right now, my record label is called Hood Environment. I got two artists that are off that so after I drop [my] album right here, I'll be dropping a Hood Environment compilation and all that...Those are my predictions." (SOHH)
The rapper recently revealed his label's two artists.
"I've reinvented myself and created a whole new sound," Drag-On said in a statement. "I'm trying to create another umbrella in this game with my label Hood Environment and my artists Da Dude and Eyez.B. However, I'm still the original 'Fire-Man.'" (All Hip Hop)
Drag will reportedly be involved with the forthcoming Ruff Ryders reunion album.
"The compilation is pretty much finished and we're looking to knock it out and have it up and running at the end of 2nd, beginning of 3rd quarter," he revealed in an interview. "We got a couple of nice joints. It's gonna be a mixture of the old and new... we got this joint called 'Family.' We got a remix on it too and we want to launch the compilation with that. It's expressing a lot of how families should move and how they should roll. We're gonna feature our established artists, new artists and we're gonna remix it and just really unify the family thing, bring back the foundation. We have collaborations songs that we did with The Lox and Cassidy and we get a song from each artist and let them express themselves. I's gonna be a decent album, we're gonna do that one independent and we may even take it upstairs (to major label) to do that on a whole other level. This album is really going to be about coming together." (Hip Hop Wired)
Rap legend Rakim recently shared his 2010 predictions with SOHH.
"Wow, I'm looking for a drastic change in hip-hop," Rakim told SOHH. "I'm hoping this is the time where I think the awareness of hip-hop and the awareness in the street will take off. We had a lot of fun with rap these last few years, rap's been growing, we've been going through that period, you gotta give it room to do that. The South embraced it and next it's gonna do something else, who knows what. I think it's been going through so many changes, it's gonna be a big change [this] year. I hope it's for the good." (SOHH)
