New York rapper Papoose has paid homage to the memories of Michael Jackson, DJ AM, Dolla, Mr. Magic, Brittany Murphy and other artists who lost their lives last year on a new song called "Obituary 2009."

On the track, Pap gives listeners a mini-biography of selected performers.

"This song goes out to everybody who didn't make it to see 2010," Pap begins the record saying. "We gonna live for you. Take these bars and play 'em in the cemetery, put the ashes on the speaker if they wasn't buried, ask me if life is short I say very, this is the 2009 obituary/Keep your head up, don't let me see a drop, in 2009 we lost the 'King of Pop'/Born August 29, 1958, lead singer of the Jackson 5, they was great...Mr. Magic, a legend in hip-hop, his death was tragic/Born March 15th, in '56, the 'Magic Disco Showcase' was the sh*t/He paved the way so mixshows could be/Then he launched 'Rap Attack' in '83...RIP Brittany Murphy...RIP Roc Raida...RIP to Dolla, from the West to the East, RIP Ed McMahon, DJ AM rest in peace..." ("Obituary 2009")

DJ AM passed away last summer in his New York City apartment.

"He wanted to die," says a police source, who says the suicide theory is supported by the pills and other evidence. "He was going unconscious when he took the last one. He didn't even swallow it. Also, a mirror was propped inside the door to the apartment and another inside the door of the bedroom, where Goldstein's body was located in the bed, the source says. When the police, Goldstein's manager and paramedics entered together, they pushed the first mirror to the side. When they entered the bedroom, the mirror propped against the door shattered. "They pushed it open and it broke," the source says. (People Magazine)

Akon's late artist, Dolla, was fatally shot in May 2009.

According to his publicist, Sue Vannasing, she said Dolla was shot in the head around 3:10 p.m. while he and another rapper, DJ Shabbazz, waited in the Beverly Center mall area after shopping. About two hours later, Los Angeles police detained a "person of interest" as he attempted to board a plane out of Los Angeles International Airport. The man allegedly drove his silver Mercedes SUV from Beverly Center to the airport. Vannasing said Dolla had gotten into an altercation with other passengers on a flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles, but it's unclear if that was related to the violence. (Sun Sentinel)
