Rap mogul Russell Simmons has teamed with the Oxygen network for a new reality show focusing on the women who help him with his daily tasks.
"The Russell Simmons Project" will give viewers a "behind-the-scenes" look at Simmons' all female business team.
The series focuses on the women who assist Simmons in running his successful business empire as well as his everyday life, Amy Introcaso-Davis, Oxygen's senior VP of original programming and development, said in a statement. (New York Daily News)
Oxygen's Amy Davis has also confirmed the new power move by Simmons.
"Russell Simmons is a fascinating man and seeing his world through the eyes of his dream team comprised of strong, passionate women provides a unique experience for our viewers," said Amy Introcaso-Davis, Senior Vice President, Original Programming and Development for Oxygen Media. "We're excited to team up with Russell on this project and shine the spotlight on his core group that are living the dream alongside him." (Reuters)
Simmons explained the series' significance via a written statement.
"Throughout my career I have surrounded myself with people smarter than me," said Russell Simmons. "This show will let them shine and provide insight into how we build our empire from the inside out." This group of valuable colleagues serves as Russell's closest confidantes, fierce gatekeepers, dating coaches, spiritual advisors, philanthropic czars, business liaisons and more. (Statement)
The rap mogul was honored earlier this year at the NAACP Image Awards.
Simmons was given the Vanguard Award, presented to an individual or group who raises awareness of racial and social issues. He said: "I discovered that giving made me happy. "As you get older, that's the easy route, so it's always been such an easy thing. It seems kind of crazy to be honored for it." (BBC News)
