R&B singer Kelis recently pointed her finger at Rihanna and Cassie for copying her hair and fashion styles and said she "expected" the younger generations to follow her lead.
From Kelis' perspective, she was the first to begin the current trend-setting hair styles.
"Well I was definitely the first to do it," Kelis explained in an interview. "The only other person I would give credit before me is Pepa. Other than that, I expect them to copy me. What else are they supposed to do? They're young. God bless them. Yeah. At the end of the day, everyone is just waiting for someone to do something new and if it's generally me, then I'll take that responsibility (laughs)... Because I named my son Knight, I think I've been in a kind of Joan of Arc, World of Battles vibe. So everything has been lots of armor and metal for right now. But I have no idea where I'm going with it." (Honey Mag)
Kelis previously spoke out on Rihanna copying her fashion.
"You know what, listen, it'd be totally ridiculous for me to not acknowledge it if someone asks. The reality is...what is she like 20? I mean, what else is she supposed to do? I mean honestly. I don't have any animosity at all whatsoever. That's what she's supposed to do." (BET)
The baby's mother to rapper Nas, Kelis was recently awarded spousal support from him.
UPDATE: 7:54 PM PT The judge just ordered Nas to pay $40,454 in spousal support and $10,647 in child support. And, Nas must pay disso-queen Laura Wasser's attorney's fees, to the tune of $46,022. Nas has just taken the stand in his divorce case, testifying that he wants overnights with his son. Kelis has custody for now, but Nas' lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, wants his client to score some face time with the kid. (TMZ)
She has also placed her music career into the hands of Jimmy Iovine's Interscope Records.
After much speculation following the release of a song titled "Acapella" on the Internet last week, singer-songwriter Kelis has announced that she has signed to Interscope Records through Will.i.am Music Group. "I love that I am now a new part of the Interscope family," Kelis said via a statement. "2010 is around the corner and I can't wait to put out new music and spend time with real music fans on tour again." (Billboard)
