Outspoken Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West will make his return to retail stores next month with the release of VH1 Storytellers, an album packed with live performances.

Being released by Def Jam, the compilation disc will arrive in early January.

Kanye West is beginning the new year with a new album. On January 5, 2010, Def Jam will release VH1 Storytellers, a two-disc DVD/CD with over 70 minutes of live performance footage and audio from his "VH1 Storytellers" concert in February, including "Heartless," "Flashing Lights," "Touch the Sky," "Good Life," and "Stronger." Also featured are three never-before-seen performances and a Q&A with Mr. West. (Rap-Up)

He has also been working on an upcoming rap album.

The 'Love Lockdown' rapper, who recently pulled out of a co-headlining 'Fame Kills' tour with Lady GaGa, is said to be eager to start on the follow-up to 2008's 808s & Heartbreak. "Kanye's taking a bit of time away from the limelight. But he keeps telling me all these ideas he has for songs and fashion bits," recent collaborator A-Trak told the Daily Star. "It's really amazing just how many ideas he has." (Digital Spy)

West collaborator Mr. Hudson recently said the rapper has been staying low-profile to craft his records.

"I saw him a couple of weeks ago and he was keeping a low profile, which is sensible." Hudson wrote as a guest columnist for newspaper the Daily Star. "He's been working so hard, touring, producing stuff for Jay-Z and Rihanna while also doing shoots for Louis Vuitton. And Kanye's getting back into rapping. He might make an old-school record on a tape deck, like the Beastie Boys used to do. Just a drum machine, ghetto blaster and a microphone." (Angry Ape)

Outside of music-making, the producer/rapper has been nominated for multiple Grammy awards.

R&B singer Beyonce led the field of Grammy contenders with 10 nominations, followed by teen country sensation Taylor Swift with eight, organizers of the music industry's top awards said on Wednesday. Black Eyed Peas, R&B singer Maxwell and rapper Kanye West each had six nominations, with Lady Gaga and rapper Jay-Z getting five apiece. (Reuters)

VH1 Storytellers will arrive in stores Tuesday, January 5th through Def Jam Records.
