Young Money's rising star Drake has talked about his "Unthinkable" collaboration with Alicia Keys.
Drake called his experience with the Grammy-winning singer one of his most cherished moments of his music career.
"Alicia Keys, they reached out and she said she really wanted me to do something on her project but she wanted me to do me, not do an Alicia Keys record," Drake explained in an interview. "And man, she gave me one of the best studio experiences in my life, like when I got there, instead of being like 'All right, here's the beat, get to work,' [she said] play me your favorite songs and let's battle. Let's battle. You play me your favorite record, we'll go one-for-one. You play me a record and I'll play you a record. And everybody was in the studio and -- it was turning into this heated party, we were all just loving music, you know? It almost like transitioned from great music to making a song, no one even noticed it but she started playing keys and I just started writing melodies and we came up with a song that I think could really be a big record for her song. I wrote most of the record and she produced it...It was probably one of the best moments of my career." (Rap-Up)
Keys has also enlisted Jay-Z's wife, Beyonce Knowles, for her upcoming The Element of Freedom.
Earlier this month, Alicia Keys said since her album, The Element of Freedom, was pushed back from Dec. 1 to Dec. 15, she used the additional time to work on possibly "the most exciting collaborations of my career yet." Now her label, J Records, confirms the album includes a duet with Beyonce as well as one with newcomer Drake. "Put It In A Love Song" features Beyonce, while "Unthinkable (I'm Ready)" has background vocals by Drake. (Billboard)
The album's tracklisting has also been released to the public.
"Element of Freedom" (Intro) "Love Is Blind" "Doesn't Mean Anything" "Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart" "Wait Til You See My Smile" "That's How Strong My Love Is" "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)" featuring Drake "Love Is My Disease" "Like the Sea" "Put It in a Love Song" featuring Beyonce Knowles "This Bed" "Distance and Time" "How It Feels to Fly" "Empire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down" (Ace Showbiz)
Speculation about an Alicia Keys/Drake collaboration landed online last month.
The "Best I Ever Had" hitmaker is reportedly featured on a song from Keys' fourth album The Element of Freedom, due December 15. Her longtime producer Kerry "Krucial" Brothers broke the news on Twitter. "'If you have something to say... U should say it right now,'" he wrote, possibly quoting the unnamed song's lyrics. "Wow this new Ak and Drake is fire! I love my job." (Rap-Up)
