R&B singers Alicia Keys and Robin Thicke will reportedly find themselves on the sales charts next week with their new albums having projected sales ranging from 100,000 to 350,000 sold.
Based off one-day estimates, both singers should easily land on the Top 10 listings.
Susan Boyle's I Dreamed a Dream is on target for another 500-600k next week, which would catapult her well over double-platinum in a month. Big release this week is J/RMG R&B ruler Alicia Keys' The Element of Freedom, which includes her version of the Jay-Z hit, "Empire State of Mind." Based on reports from one-day retailers with egg nog hangovers overdose at the office party, the album is in the 330-350k range. Star Trak/Interscope's Robin Thicke is next at 100-110k for his fourth release, Sex Therapy. (Hits Daily Double)
Drake, who is featured on Keys' album, called his experience with the Grammy-winning singer one of his most cherished music career moments.
"Alicia Keys, they reached out and she said she really wanted me to do something on her project but she wanted me to do me, not do an Alicia Keys record," Drake explained in an interview. "And man, she gave me one of the best studio experiences in my life, like when I got there, instead of being like 'All right, here's the beat, get to work,' [she said] play me your favorite songs and let's battle. Let's battle. You play me your favorite record, we'll go one-for-one. You play me a record and I'll play you a record. And everybody was in the studio and -- it was turning into this heated party, we were all just loving music, you know? It almost like transitioned from great music to making a song, no one even noticed it but she started playing keys and I just started writing melodies and we came up with a song that I think could really be a big record for her song. I wrote most of the record and she produced it...It was probably one of the best moments of my career." (Rap-Up)
Keys also enlisted Jay-Z's wife, Beyonce Knowles, for the solo project.
Earlier this month, Alicia Keys said since her album, The Element of Freedom, was pushed back from Dec. 1 to Dec. 15, she used the additional time to work on possibly "the most exciting collaborations of my career yet." Now her label, J Records, confirms the album includes a duet with Beyonce as well as one with newcomer Drake. "Put It In A Love Song" features Beyonce, while "Unthinkable (I'm Ready)" has background vocals by Drake. (Billboard)
Following-up 2008's Something Else, Thicke recently touched on the inspiration behind Sex Therapy.
"It's in the tradition of Marvin Gaye's Sexual Healing,'' Thicke said. "No matter where you're at -- whether you're just starting a relationship or if you've been in a relationship a long time, a little sex therapy is a good thing." (Miami Herald)
