Shaunie, the wife of NBA player-turned-rapper Shaquille O'Neal has reportedly filed for divorce from the baller after nearly seven years of marriage due to "irreconcilable differences."
Shaq's wife has also requested sole custody of their children.
Shaunie is requesting custody of their four kids granting visitation to Shaq. She is also seeking an unspecified amount of spousal support and child support for the children; Shareef age 9, Amirah age 7, Shaqir age 6, and Me'Arah age 3. Shaq also has a daughter, Taahirah from a previous relationship. Shaunie has a son Myles from a prior relationship. (People Magazine)
The paperwork was reportedly filed in California this week.
TMZ has learned Shaunie filed legal papers yesterday in L.A., even though the couple lives in Florida. The petition says although Shaunie is filing for legal separation, she intends to file for divorce. She lists "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for separation. We're told Shaunie pulled her kids out of school in Florida several days ago and they are with her now in L.A. Why, you ask, would Shaunie cross the country to file in L.A.? Well, a spouse generally does a lot better in the spousal support department here in California. Shaunie is asking for both spousal and child support -- though she did not specify an amount for either. (TMZ)
Shaq initially filed for separation from his wife around 2007.
The couple has had previous marital difficulties. Shaquille O'Neal filed for divorce in 2007 in Miami, Florida stating that the marriage was irretrievably broken. There were allegations by Shaq that Shaunie was being secretive with property and financial instruments that were held in her name alone. Shaunie alleged that Shaq was hiding income from her, eventually requesting copies of Shaq's contract with the Heat. The couple later reconciled. (Associated Content)
Aside from marriage issues, Shaq previously spoke on his admiration for the rap group D-Block.
"I just wanna say one thing, a lot of people sleeping on them D-Block cats," Shaq said in an interview last summer. "Them cats are legends. Them cats are legend. D-Block, I'm with y'all. I'm with y'all all the way. No, there ain't a [collaboration] record coming out. I'm just saying, you know a lot of people put together crews, but this is like one of the first crews that all three cats is hot. D-Block, whoo, outta here. Yeah, [I'm listening to] D-Block, Red[man] and Method [Man], gotta represent [New Jersey], Biggie." (Radio Planet TV)
