As Warren G hit the road for his nationwide promotional tour in support of The G-Files, SOHH hit up the rap veteran to see why rocker Travis Barker and Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon are also billed for select dates.
Aside from his tour guests, Warren said the 21-city run would offer fans a chance to see him in a more personal setting.
"It's more of a promo tour then the big tour is gonna jump off after that," G explained. "But people don't never get a chance to see me in clubs, they only get to see me in venues, so we mainly doing a club circuit, House of Blues-type of circuit so people will really get a chance to see [me] up close and personal. They haven't got that and they haven't seen me perform a lot of the songs I have for all these albums so that's what we're doing. In L.A, most likely itl'll be Travis [Barker] and then I come here to New York, I gotta perform twice in New York and Brooklyn, that's gonna be fun. So I can shout-out to Raekwon to come get down with me and we'll rock that." (SOHH)
The tour will hit various cities and make numerous stops through November 24th.
In support of The G Files, Warren G will be headlining a 21-city national tour that kicks off with his record release party on October 1st at the Roxy in Los Angeles. The tour will have its final stop in San Francisco on November 24th. Los Angeles fans last caught Warren performing at the Roxy this past July as a special guest at the Travis Barker/DJ AM show. They performed Warren's mega-hit "Regulate" to a packed audience and the overwhelming response is a testament to his crossover talent. (MV Remix)
G recently spoke with SOHH about using a limited amount of guest features for his new album.
"Well, when you're doing independent records, it's kinda hard to reach out to people that you really wanna reach out to because a lot of these cats, I may not know 'em but I may respect their work," G explained. "But when you get at 'em, you go through their managers and all that sh*t and end up being like, 'Okay, we'll we're gonna charge you 50 to 70,000 [dollars] and I'm not getting ready to do that. But then, it's a lot of artists who's vets in the game like a Kanye West, a Jay-Z, if I get at them, those guys'll come get down. But I didn't have enough time to reach out to these guys and time enough to close the record, the company was on my head, so I went ahead and worked with the people I had which was Raekwon, Travis Barker -- Ray J." Despite the initial drawbacks, Warren was still able to provide fans with an ample amount of features.
The G Files, which is set to surface Sept. 29, is the rapper's sixth studio album. The forthcoming set features guest performances by Snoop Dogg, Raekwon, Nate Dogg, Nicc, Cassie Davis and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, among others. The first single from the album, "She Got Her Own Ringtone," was released in June of last year. A second single, "Crush," featuring singer Ray J, surfaced in February. (Live Daily)
