Jay-Z has confirmed reports that he and Alicia Keys have been chosen to perform "Empire State of Mind" at Game 1 of the Major League Baseball World Series tomorrow (October 28) in New York.
Hov also shared his excitement to perform the Blueprint 3 single in his hometown.
"The Yankees are fantastic," Hov said in an interview. "I'm from Brooklyn, Brooklyn-born, New York City so I grew up a Yankee and thank God for making me a Yankee. [laughs] 'Thank the good Lord for making me a Yankee.' Once in a lifetime experience, for me, growing up a Yankee fan so to be on the field and perform and specifically the song in New York is tailor-made for the city. Just the timing of it all worked out so." (Associated Press)
Prior to Hov, an inside MLB source confirmed the set via Twitter.
"Just Confirmed: Jay Z and Alicia Keys will sing Empire State of Mind at Yankee Stadium for Game 1 of the World Series @burbetto @zeke_thomas," inside source Matt Strombelline reported on Friday (October 23). "@jayzfans Yea confirmed today. My friend works at Major League Baseball and met with Hov to finalize it....Yankees back in the world series!!!!! Going back to NY for Game 1 and 2. Jay Z and Alicia Keys performing Game 1. Can't wait...Flying back home on Wednesday. New York state of mind all week. @zeke_thomas I'm sitting third base second level. Where you sitting." Jay-Z, Kanye West and Rihanna's "Run This Town" collabo took over New York radio airwaves earlier this month and became station Z100's official Yankees' anthem.
"This song is not false bravado because the Yankees are really good this year," said David Brody, executive producer of "Elvis Duran and The Morning Show," who penned the parody. Fans were buzzing over the spoof, repeatedly requesting to hear it on the air - the only place it's available. "The responses have been tremendous," said Brody, who's really a Met fan. "Obviously, Yankee fever is big right now." (New York Daily News)
The duo will also hit the stage next month for the American Music Awards.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, Nov. 22 on ABC: Superstar Jay Z and hubby-snatchin' songbird Alicia Keys are set to perform the charttopping collabo "Empire State of Mind" at the 2009 American Music Awards next month. The duo performed the single -- featured on Hov's Blueprint 3 LP -- at the MTV VMAs last month, but irksome rapper Lil Mama crashed the stage during the performance. (Pop Crunch)
