With Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3 on the verge of platinum status after only three weeks of availability, SOHH spoke to Kid Cudi about his guest feature on the project and his relationship with Hov.
While saying the two have not had much time to connect, Cudi did reveal his intent to return to the studio with Jay soon.
"Yeah man, it's really something that I plan on doing, working with Jay," Cudi explained. "Just getting in the studio and creating something. When I did the hook which went on Blueprint 3, Jay wasn't around. But it's really something that I'm flattered about, being in the situation, like I said, I just bugged the f*ck out but at the same time, we gonna move forward and try make some more original sh*t. I've yet to have this conversation with Jay but I hope we can come together for some more records." (SOHH)
The rap newcomer recently expressed his reaction to being tagged for Hov's new album.
"I was listening to the song in my iPod and I was just like 'Man, I'm on a song with Jay-Z, like, legitimately'" Cudi explained in an interview with DJ Semtex over the summer. "I recorded these vocals last summer when I didn't have no job and I was still grinding, I didn't have a deal, actually, and those are the same vocals. So the fact that I did it a year ago and he used it which he could have easily had somebody else do it and I could have got writer's credit, but he kept me on there and that's really dope. It really bugged me out -- it's bugged man [laugh], I don't know -- [The song's meaning is] people always saying not saying this about Jay and they always critiquing the legend but this song is pretty much telling cats he's here to stay, he never left and why they want him to fall and it'll never happen 'cause it's the Roc." Jay's latest effort has secured over 900,000 sold copies in only three weeks.
The self-proclaimed "Greatest Rapper Alive's" The Blueprint 3 took a slight dip this week falling one step to No. 2 with 134,100 sold copies losing out to Pearl Jam's Backspacer which moved 189,300 units to go No. 1. According to Nielsen Soundscan, Hovi's latest No. 1 debuting album has sold 908,100 copies in just three weeks. (Sales Wrap)
Hov also had to struggle through an early leak of his Blueprint 3 album nearly two weeks prior to its official release.
"I may be the most bootlegged artist in history," he said in an interview after learning the news. "It's a preview. I'm excited for people to hear the album. I'm very proud of the work I've down, so enjoy it...My pager is actually ringing right now, so people are probably calling me and telling me they pretty much like it. I can tell by the way my pager rings if a song is good or not. It's really going crazy right now." (MTV)
