West Coast rap veteran Snoop Dogg has unveiled the concept behind his forthcoming Malice In Wonderland album.

From Snoop's perspective, he still has the ability to step behind a microphone and put together "gangster" hits.

"I start off with so much malice in my heart when the record kicks in," Snoop explained in an interview. "By the time I get to the end of the record, I'm in Wonderland. I'm feeling good about life. I'm celebrating, happy about my wife, my kids, life in general. It's just a roller coaster of what I'm going through as I speak. I've always juggled the line, 'Should I make a gangster record? 'Cause I could kill all you rappers if I wanted to,' [and] then I have to sit back and say, 'I'm a business, so I'm gonna make records that can help me in this business.' I have to make radio records, but when I don't care, y'all in trouble." (MTV)

According to a recent listening session with VIBE, the rapper has hooked up with a variety of artists for the solo album.

The selective track list--the project consists of a lean but filling 12 songs--includes contributions from R. Kelly, Soulja Boy, Lil Jon, Gucci Mane, Brandy and Pharrell. True to its title, the album's sound and content are paradoxical, with Snoop at times rapping thuggery to Terrance Martin's gun-click sound effects ("2 Minute Warning") and elsewhere dedicating whole songs to his wife, Shante (the happy and sappy "Different Languages," with Jazmine Sullivan). The West Coast legend also pays homage to California's next generation. He gives a nod to Los Angeles' burgeoning jerk dance moment with the Scoop Deville-produced "Wanna Rock," and passes the baton to young'uns Problem and Nipsey Hussle on "Upside Down." (VIBE)

Snoop is also hitting the road with Method Man & Redman to promote the project.

Dogg announces his latest tour featuring hip hop greats Method Man, Redman and Devin the Dude. The tour, titled Wonderland High School Tour, is a bonafide hip hop lover's dream and will kick off on October 27th in Baltimore and travel across North America. With an arsenal of both new and classic hits, fans can expect the best of Snoop Dogg on these tour dates. Snoop will be performing his well known classics as well as material from the forthcoming release, Malice In Wonderland, due out on December 8th. (Press Release)

Aside from the album, Snoop was recently named the new Creative Chairman of EMI Music's Priority Records.

As Creative Chairman of Priority, the label that established West Coast Rap as an influential musical force, Snoop will re-launch the legacy of Priority and will drive efforts to maximize untapped digital and branding opportunities at the label. He will also serve as Executive Producer for a new series of Priority releases slated to begin hitting the market next year to commemorate the label's 25th anniversary. Priority's genre-defining catalog includes classic recordings by Snoop, as well as from N.W.A, Eazy-E, Master P, Ice Cube, Westside Connection, EPMD and others. (Press Release)

Malice In Wonderland will reportedly hit shelves December 2009.
