New York rapper Papoose has suggested that he is on the verge of making a "big announcement" and revealing a new record label home for his debut album.
Pap also confirmed his long-awaited debut album The Nacirema Dream is still on deck.
"Right now my aim is bigger," Pap said in an interview. "What I got in the works right now is going to shake the ground when it drops. What I'm about to do I feel like nobody is doing right now. I really don't give too much details about it right now, but the announcement will be made real soon. I'm about to make a real power move. I'm coming for you n*ggas, so I hope you're prepared for it. The Nacirema Dream album is coming properly. The fans are going to be proud. I hear the fans complaining, they're always saying, 'Yo, when you going to drop the album?' But I appreciate you waiting for me man. The fans know I'm not an idiot and everything is strategic so that announcement is coming real soon... A lot of people go to Koch and Babygrande and all that, but they're not doing it how I'm about to do it. When I make this move they're going to respect it." (Hip Hop DX)
The rapper's close ties with DJ Kay Slay helped him land a record deal around 2006.
After guest appearing on a few tracks in 2006, including the remix of Busta Rhyme's Top 20 pop-charting single "Touch It," he finally signed a $1.5 million contract with Jive Records in August 2006. His debut album, The Nacirema Dream, was practically already finished, but in the meantime, he held over fans with The Best of Papoose: The Mixtape, a succinct synopsis of his prolific mixtape run. Although no longer on the label, Pap has kept relevant by performing at 50 Cent's recent concerts including his Family Day Queens, New York show.
Over 2,500 people came to the yard by P.S. 40, according to security officials for the 50 Cent/ G-Unit-sponsored event. No heavy prior promotion was made. A few flyers were passed out on Friday, but most of the traffic for the event was due to word of mouth. Even Lloyd Banks said he didn't know about the function until about 3 a.m. on Saturday, when he received a text message from someone in their organization telling him to show up. Papoose and Cormega also came out to support the event, and unsigned Queens rapper Trav opened up the show. (MTV)
He is also married to incarcerated rapper Remy Ma.
"Remy, she's maintaining and she's getting through it," Pap explained in an interview with Jenny Boom Boom over the summer. "I visit her every other day at this point and kids want autographs from both of us. In the beginning I was there everyday, but I got a lot of things to maintain out here so I'm there every other day. Yup [we're married.]...[The wedding] was the best it could possibly be. It's something that I'm proud of and we're gonna stick by each other...Her son is good money, he's maintaining. He goes to see her from time to time...We're just teaching him the right things, letting him know his mother is gonna be out here soon...Dudes really don't hold females down when it comes to these situations. Real people do real things, I do it from the heart...[The Rikers Island rumors] is The New York Post once again taking shots at me. I mean it's true I went there to do a show, I went to Rikers Island before for an inmate, when I went there, it was smooth, the inmates had a good time, nothing happened...I would have been arrested if that happened."
