Lil Wayne protege Nicki Minaj has promised to drop a single from her as-yet-untitled debut album in the next few weeks.
Nicki also said the Young Money All-Stars album will have its debut single drop soon.
"The Young Money single will officially be out in a week or so," Minaj said in an interview. "My single is slated to come out in November. We already have it, just waiting on the timing. 'I Get Crazy,' that's not my official single. That is a record that was on Beam Me Up Scotty with Wayne. New York has been showing it love. Big up to Hot 97. Everywhere actually has been playing it. But it's not my official single. [The single] might be a record called 'Married in the Club. But we'll see." (MTV)
According to Minaj, her solo debut will offer a universal appeal with a variety of sounds.
"As far as the album, I've been working on my album for a very long time," Nicki explained in an interview. "It's being released in the first quarter of next year. And in the meantime, the Young Money compilation album will be out this year. And I'm getting ready to shoot a video for the first single, so you guys can look out for that, it's gonna be crazy. I've been doing a lot of features, you know, a lot of features for a lot of artists and their albums. And that's about it, Beam Me Up Scotty has been very well-received...The album is gonna be geared to everybody. Everybody in the world, not just people in Southside Jamaica, Queens [New York] -- but it's gonna be more of a universal record, no pun intended. It's gonna be pop-sounding stuff, rock-sounding stuff, hip-hop-sounding stuff, just an experimentation..." (Honey Mag)
She officially joined forces with Lil Wayne's label over the summer.
The battle among labels to sign Minaj heightened this summer and finalized with Minaj signing an exceptional and very unique deal with Young Money/Universal, where she retains and owns all of her 360 rights, including merchandising, sponsorships, endorsements, touring and publishing. Lil Wayne asserts, 'I am honored to have Nicki Minaj as Young Money's First Lady. She is a star.' Minaj's debut album is anticipated to be released in early 2010 and will be distributed through Universal Motown. (Press Release)
The New York-based emcee has also caught the attention of female rappers including Trina.
"She definitely deserves the respect," Trina said in an interview about Nicki. "She doesn't have an album out or sold any records, but it's more so about the passion and the response she gets from the listeners. To see her pave her way from nothing to come up to be a topic or a name. You give that respect to the person coming up making a name for themselves. That's just real talk. I don't pull any punches. People say I give too much credit to people but it's not about that. It's about being real. And being real is giving props when it's due. You can't be hating or mad when you see people doing their thing." (XXL Mag)
A release date and title for Nicki's upcoming project has not yet been announced.
