Though Drake still has not publicly acknowledged Kia Shine's involvement in his hit record "Best I've Ever Had" the producer is standing by his claims and says the Young Money artist has likely been "misinformed" about his publishing credits.
According to Shine, Drizzy has yet to acknowledge the various amounts of proof stating his involvement on the record.
"I think the media kinda took it out of proportion, they think I actually sat in the studio with the n*gga and wrote it, that ain't the only way to get a credit for the record," Shine explained. "I saw the statement that Drake put out about it and I look at it like this, he probably was misinformed or whatever and sh*t because he can look on his EP and see my name on the label, copyright credits, he can look on Billboard and see my name -- a n*gga can't make up BMI awards and sh*t like that. It opened people's minds to Kia Shine being more than just an artist and it kinda opened exposed them to the business side of what I do and what I'm able to do and also my production side." Kia recently told Drake's camp and all doubters to speak with the executives at Universal to verify his publishing rights.
"This is something I knew about for like eight months or whatever and I knew once the BMI Awards happened or whatever then the blogs and all that would do they thing," he said in an interview last month. "He took the track, they re-flipped the track, the took the melody, the cadence and they took some of the words on that same 'Do It For The Boy' song...It's no issue with me or Drake, it's just the business behind it. Sometimes if a guy is that hot, it's just business. These things happen...It just so happened to be one of the biggest records of this year and it happened to be Kia Shine...You cannot fabricate me up in New York getting the BMI award for this record. You see the pictures, I got three awards for the record going number one...It's definitely a real thing. No disrespect, but if you just got a publishing deal and you Drake and you just got a nice piece broke off to you because you told this one company you own this record with this producer when it's not true...I know n*ggas don't want sh*t like that getting out when you're an artist, you're probably sensitive about your sh*t but it is a true statement and I will be receiving 25 percent of whatever that song makes. And that royalty check will be the best I ever had." (Team Yee)
Drizzy, however, said the accusations of 25 percent publishing rights are false.
"There have been questions posed to me the last few days about the writing of 'Best I Ever Had' and I figured I'd take the time to clear the air directly," he wrote Thursday (September 17) night. "I have never met Kia Shine or worked with him. I wrote the entire composition in Toronto and I borrowed one line from a Lil Wayne song that he produced the BEAT for. The claims of 25% ownership are false and for a artist to brag about splits on a song is distasteful to begin with." (October's Very Own)
Writing via Twitter, Shine initially posted images of himself being awarded with Billboard plaques in recognition of the song.
"maan i am not a hater, if someone is blessed with something i commed them and encourage, not discourage," he wrote in September. "for all the nob believers here is the pic taken from Sept.10th's Bm1 awards in NY where I won 3 awards for my publishing share of 'BEST I EVER HAD'...this message is for all the non-believers YES kia shine OWNS 25% OF THE DRAKE SONG 'THE BEST I EVER HAD' 3 BMI AWARDS FOR THE SONG GOING #1 ON 3 BILLBOARD CHARTS. GO BUY HIS EP TODAY! MY FAMILY APPRECIATES IT! ... its all there! can't make sh*t like this up (Kia Shine's Twitter)
