Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West will reportedly release a new book called Through The Wire next month which will analyze 12 songs he has created since his 2003 debut, College Dropout.
For the book, Yeezy teamed with illustrator Bill Plympton to create the images of each song.
Through the Wire is a graphic memoir that illustrates the lyrics of twelve Kanye West songs to tell his story, from his decision to drop out of college to pursue his dreams in music, through his days spent folding chinos at the Gap while struggling at night to make a name as a producer, through the pivotal car accident that eventually set him on the course to stardom and the epiphany of realizing exactly who he had become. Plympton illustrates each of the songs in detail, his vision of Kanye's world. The songs are annotated with explanations of the references in the songs, biographical components that illuminate the lyrics, and their meaning on a deeply personal level. (Simon & Schuster)
Aside from the book, Ye has also released his short Spike Jonze film We Were Once a Fairytale.
Spike Jonze, the director behind Where the Wild Things Are, has been working on a short film with Kanye West, called We Were Once a Fairytale. It was supposed to debut on iTunes on September 8th, but has only now appeared online. The eleven minute film shows a drunk/high Kanye at a nightclub. He can't control his emotions and thus flops around between different women, who wants nothing to do with him. (Worst Previews)
Writing via his blog, Yeezy recently shared the emotion behind his upcoming 288-page Glow in the Dark book.
"THIS IS THE PHOTO BOOK FROM THE GLOW IN DARK TOUR," Ye wrote on Friday (October 9). "NABIL CAPTURED THE EXPERIENCE LIKE CRAZY! WHEN I LOOK AT THE PHOTOS IT BRINGS ME RIGHT BACK TO THAT TIME! IT'S VERY EMOTIONAL FOR ME BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE TO TOUR BUT MY PAIN BROUGHT MY GREATEST CREATION TO DATE. THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY WHO CAME TO THE SHOWS AND EXPERIENCED THIS MOMENT IN TIME WITH ME!" (Kanye West's Blog)
The text will serve as a guide to Ye's international travels from last year.
Tentatively scheduled for an October 2009 release, it will chronicle Kanye's journeys around the world as he tours and hits up fashion parties. Photographer Nabil Elderkin also captured him shopping in Asian malls. The book will come with a USB drive of previously unreleased music and will cost $50. (New York Magazine)
Kanye West's Through The Wire book is slated to hit shelves Tuesday, November 10th.
