Jay-Z has addressed his "Empire State of Mind" performance with Alicia Keys at last night's World Series game with and gave his prediction for the outcome of the match-up between the New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies.
Speaking via a phone call Friday (October 30) morning, Hov also touched on his hometown team playing numerous Blueprint 3 singles throughout the post-season.
"The moment at Yankee stadium for me, as a kid growing up in Brooklyn, I'm still high off of that," Jay explained in an interview. "But right after that, we got a police escort right to the airport and took a plane straight out...I felt like a kid, the field is beautiful, I never been that close to the field, walking around. I jumped over the center field fence like I was catching a homerun...Fantastic series, I figure Philly is gonna be tough and we can take it in seven. The pitching is incredible, Cliff Lee pitched an incredible game and A.J. Burnett pitched, C.C. [Sabathia] pitched a strong game. Everyone is pitching strong. It's a great feeling [to hear my music at the games]. You got Derek Jeter playing 'Empire State' and A-Rod playing 'Already Home' and Cano [Robinson] playing 'Run This Town,' it's a Jay-Z playlist in the stadium. It's fantastic." Early speculation suggested Hov would censor his set for the World Series.
The lyrics to Jay'z "Empire State of Mind" are sometimes as raw as New York, but it looks like the rapper will clean up that language when he performs his city anthem at the World Series. A source close to the rapper who requested anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak on the matter says Jay-Z won't utter curses or other raw language included in his hit, which has been blasted by the New York Yankees during their playoff run. Jay-Z and fellow New Yorker Alicia Keys were due to perform "Empire" before Game 1 between the Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday at Yankee Stadium. But because of rainy weather, their performance will now be on Thursday. It's not clear if Game 1 will be postponed. (Associated Press)
Initial confusion on when Jay would perform began to grow after it was learned that Hov was set for two events on the same day.
Late Tuesday afternoon, Jay-Z's Web site said that he will perform, as scheduled, at the World Series. The first pitch between the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies is scheduled for 7:57 p.m. According to the staff at the Schottenstein Center, Jay-Z is going to perform in Columbus and is skipping the World Series.
