The Lox's Jadakiss has shared his reaction to not making MTV's annual Hottest In The Game listing this year and gave props to 50 Cent for calling out the network's staff.
While not dissing artists who made the list like Rick Ross or Fabolous, Kiss laughingly admitted to knowing his "hot" status.
"Yeah you know, I don't really get tied up with that," Kiss explained in an interview. "Everybody who's on that list, I'm on they list. Not to cut you off, I'll tell you what I liked. I liked 50's list, what he put about the n*ggas who made the list on This Is 50 [saying MTV's Top 10 is really them.] That was hard." (G-Unit Radio)
Grammy-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco promised to increase his work ethic and produce more records as a result of being motivated to make next year's listing.
"Now a few days ago, well, over the past three, four weeks, [MTV] put this list out on MTV," Lupe told a crowd of fans. "And it was the top ten emcees. It makes sense 'cause it's the top ten emcees for like 'right now.' Which is cool, makes sense, n*ggas be hot. But I knew I wasn't gonna make it because I haven't done sh*t in years or some sh*t like that. I was like 'Okay, well f*ck it then.' You thinking like two straight solid years where I need to be one, two, three, four and five on that motherf*cker. So, I decided to put in the work. I was like 'You know what? I'm finna just work every day, four songs a day or some sh*t.' And then we'll see next year, who'll be number one on that list. So I did this sh*t the other day." (YouTube)
Jay-Z, who landed at No. 1, questioned MTV about Eminem's absence from the 2009 list.
"Sidebar: Kanye moment if I may ... Eminem?!?! I think you do the credibility of this list a disservice if you don't thoroughly explain his omission. As of this second he has the highest selling rap album of the year and a scene stealing verse on the best 'posse' cut of the year . (*Hands mic back to Taylor Swift ... and nobody was harmed, I apologize in advance.)" (Rap Radar)
MTV later issued a response to the public's reaction toward Em's absence.
Eminem's ranking was one of the most discussed topics at the Roundtable. His hotly anticipated return to hip-hop after a long absence drove first week sales of over 600,000 - the highest first-week of the year so far. He granted a handful of select interviews here and abroad, and was part of a massive moment with Sacha Baron Cohen at the MTV Movie Awards. But then Em retreated to the lab, where he spent the summer crafting Relapse 2. From June to September, Em all-but took himself out of the public eye, while other MCs generated week-to-week heat with mixtapes, guest appearances, performances and Web activity. (M Live)
