Yesterday, after it was reported that Max B had been sentenced to 75 years in prison his associate French Montana responded with clarification saying Max's defense team still has a limited amount of time to change the judge's ruling.
Writing via Twitter, French cleared up the terms of Max's sentence.
"max b did not get 75 years," French wrote yesterday (September 3). "he didn't get sentence today...max b sentencing have a 30 day motion it's 75 years unless the new evidence, and the new lawyer make a diffrence.....god bless" (French Montana's Twitter)
The rapper's step brother, Kelvin Leerdam, was also sentenced to life in prison plus 35 years for his role in the fatal robbery.
Both Wingate and Leerdam looked resigned when Superior Court Judge Harry G. Carroll sentenced them in Hackensack, New Jersey. Wingate said he was not happy with his attorney, Gerald Saluti, and fired him during the hearing just before he received his sentence. Witnesses during trial testified that [the victims] David Taylor and his friend, Allan Plowden, were seen in Harlem a few days before the robbery, driving expensive cars and showing off a lot of cash. Leerdam's attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, said her client deserved some leniency because he was only 21 at the time of the incident. Carroll, however, handed out a stiff sentence, saying Leerdam took a firearm with him to the hotel "and did not hesitate to use it." (North Jersey News)
G-Unit's Tony Yayo previously weighed in on Max B's guilty verdict and explained why he thought Max's lawyer may have cost him the case.
"It's an unfortunate thing that happened to Max B," Yayo said in an interview. "He just had a kid. I f*ck with Max. I f*ck with French [Montana]. I think he had bad representation with his lawyer. What lawyer do you know that's gonna do a blog with you? That's when I think everything got messed up. That blog f*cked it up. You know I'm always in trouble. When I have a case, I don't do no press, nothing. If you don't got a lawyer there telling you, 'Shut the f*ck up,' you're f*cked up. The lawyer was wack. Your lawyer wants to sit there and do a blog with you? [Max's] lawyer may not have been the one to handle a homicide." (MTV)
It was Max's ex-girlfriend who accepted a plea deal and implicated him in the fatal 2006 robbery earlier this year.
Gina Conway and two others were charged with murder after a botched robbery at the Holiday Inn on Route 4 ended in the shooting death of one of the victims in September 2006. Conway met David Taylor and Allan "Jay" Plowden and told her boyfriend that the two men drove flashy cars and carried a lot of cash. The boyfriend, Charly "Max B" Wingate then recruited an associate to rob Taylor and Plowden, prosecutors said. (SOHH)
