Grammy-winning rapper Kanye West caused an unexpected stir Sunday (September 13) night after appearing on-stage during country singer Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at MTV's Video Music Awards 2009.

While reports have speculated whether the incident was staged, Yeezy surprisingly took center stage during the live broadcast.

Moments after Taylor Swift's win for Best Female Video ('You Belong With Me') was announced tonight at MTV's Video Music Awards, a furious Mr. West ran onstage, grabbed a mic, and interrupted her acceptance speech to announce his belief that Beyonce's 'Single Ladies' deserved that award instead. The move reportedly struck a cord with Swift following the incident.

'Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'll let you finish, but Beyonce has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!,' Kanye shouted to a mortified Swift and the speechless audience. According to sources at the VMAs, Swift was seen hysterically crying backstage after Kanye's outburst, making it convenient that her performance of 'You Belong to Me,' which immediately followed the acceptance speech, was prerecorded. Wale, who is serving as MC for the house band, told the crowd, 'You can't fault a man for speaking his mind,' which was promptly met by boos from the Radio City Music Hall crowd. (Rolling Stone)

Rappers watching the awards show chimed in on their reaction to Yeezy's statement.

"well we should really wish kanye the best," Q-Tip wrote via Twitter. "lets just move it on. hes still dope" (Q-Tip's Twitter)

DJ Drama questioned why Ye made the unexpected move.

"Why Kanye do that during the female award?," Drama questioned via Twitter. "Would he have done that if that was Best Male Video??" (DJ Drama's Twitter)

Rapper Mysonne also took Swift's side against Ye.

"Even though I believe Beyonce should have won," he wrote via Twitter, "Kanye disrespected that 17 year old girl, stole her moment! Wack sh*t!! And I'm a bad guy!smh." (Mysonne's Twitter)
