Jay-Z has reportedly broken his silence on his April 2008 wedding to Beyonce Knowles by saying the secret ceremony was planned at the last minute.
Featured in the upcoming October 2009 issue of Oprah Winfrey's O Magazine, the Hov interview also touched on the controversial N-word usage within hip-hop.
"Yeah, when you're a public person, you have to keep some things to yourself, or else," Jay said in the interview. "[The wedding was] late planning! Very few [people attended.] The sad part is that we offended some. But people who love you understand. Because at the end of the day, it's your day...Nothing is necessary. [The N-word has] just become part of the way we communicate. My generation hasn't had the same experience with that word that generations of people before us had. We weren't so close to the pain. So in our way, we disarmed the word. We took the fire pin out of the grenade." (O Magazine)
New York radio personality Angie Martinez previously spoke with SOHH about trying to get Jay to break his silence about his marriage last November on her BET special.
"There is some fun, kind of banter about it where I ask him, what happens when there's kids," Martinez explained. "Like, you can't hide the kids, like, are the kids gonna be a secret? So there's kinda like some fun banter about that and it's really more about his career and how he sees himself, his process in making music, really about what they do more so than any kind of gossipy, kind of, ground breaking segment." Reports initially broke out around April 2008 about their marriage, however, Jay-Z never directly confirmed the speculation.
After years of speculation, singer Beyonce Knowles wed her longtime boyfriend, rapper Jay-Z, on Friday, a friend of the couple's tells People Magazine. Though there is no official confirmation, the friend says, "It happened earlier this evening. Jay wanted it to be a really private affair -- close friends and family." (People Magazine)
A bodyguard for Jay-Z and Beyonce was recently busted for assault and destruction of personal property after an altercation took place last month with a television reporter in Croatia, however, charges were later dropped.
Croatian law enforcement tell TMZ there will be no jail time for J's hired muscle, who had assault and destroying personal property charges filed against him after a tussle with a local reporter earlier this week. The bodyguard will have to pay a fine -- and we're told the police will not pursue further legal action. (TMZ)
The upcoming O Magazine issue drops Tuesday, September 15th.
