This morning (September 8), Jay-Z offered his response to the derogatory remarks that T-Pain made about him during a weekend performance in Las Vegas.
Speaking on the "Ed Lover Show" Tuesday (September 8) morning, Hov downplayed Pain's remarks about his age and credited him for his creative usage of auto-tune.
"I made it very clear I wasn't talking about him [on 'Death of Autotune']," Jay explained. "I think he's talented, I don't thik he needs auto-tune to sell records but if that's his prerogative -- Everybody has a birthday. They don't have much else to say, they can't attack my credentials as an artist or my lyrics as an emcee." ("The Ed Lover Show")
Footage of Pain dissing Jay over the weekend landed online yesterday.
"But Jay-Z is 59 years old, I don't think he has the right to say if it's dead," Pain said to a crowd. "That's just me, that's just me. Because I didn't come here to preach, I didn't come here to have a sermon. I came here to have fun, now ladies and gentlemen, I will give you the full right and the ability to kick my a** if you see Jay-Z do this -- Now I just want to clarify, are there any Jay-Z fans in the crowd -- but you don't see me saying rap is dead. Even though it is because all the rappers are trying to do T-Pain." (YouTube)
Fellow Brooklyn, New York-bred emcee Fabolous also broke the news of Pain's rant via Twitter.
"Yo I'm at Rehab in Vegas..," Fab wrote Sunday (September 6). "T-Pain is DJ'ing.. Sayin F*ck JayZ, he old, blah blah.. guess its backlash from D.O.A...So I'm here wit Rihanna, @richyungamerica, & @paulcainsf.. Drinkin some strawberry/daquiri's.. Not feelin the Tpain JayZ dissing.. Brooklyn! Newsflash: they jus played D.O.A. Right after he got off.. Wowwwwwwww!! Yo the DJ is doin a jayz set.. D.O.A., kingdom come, run this town, heart of the city, h to the izzo, amillie free.. Tpain somewhere in here" (Fabolous' Twitter)
In addition to more autotune-based tracks, Pain previously said Jay's "D.O.A" forced him to prepare for his next album sooner than expected.
"The album just got pushed up," Pain said in an interview earlier this week. "It was gonna come out September next year. [The record label], they're making me come out November this year. It makes the label look straight. I was gonna chill, because it was so many people that do what I do -- now Jay-Z done dropped the 'Death of Autotune' and it's time for me to come back...Oh yeah [I'm still using it]. Definitely now. Jay-Z said something...I gotta do it now. It's nothing outta the ordinary, so I'm ready." (MTV)
