Jay-Z recently reflected on the memory of the late Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein and said he crossed paths with the deejay a day prior to his near-fatal plane crash last year.
Rather than speak on his passing, Jay remembered how he came into contact with the popular deejay and worked with him on a series of concerts prior to his death last week.
"I met him the day before the plane crash," Hov said in an interview. "We were doing the [Hollywood Palladium] concert, and he told me that he had to go down to South Carolina to do a show with Travis [Barker], and then we'd go and do our show...The plane crash happened, and I'm thinking, 'Let him recover. We'll talk about that some other time,' He called, like, 'Nah, man, I'm still ready to go.' I was shocked by that at first. He came, he had a bandage on his head, and he was ready to go. He was someone that really loved what he did. That's passion: to love what you do and still go forward." (MTV)
Fans and rappers alike shared their reactions to the deejay's death Friday (August 28) evening.
"????????????," Virginia rapper Skillz typed. "I can't breathe. He was my friend...I cannot blv that I will neva c him again. I can't stop crying. According to authorities, DJ AM was found with prescription drugs throughout his home last Friday (August 28).
The 36 year-old ex-fiance of Nicole Richie, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, was discovered in bed wearing only sweatpants at his $2 million SoHo pad and a near-empty bag of crack stuck to his chest, sources said. Investigators found a glass crack pipe in his bedroom and at least seven bottles of prescription drugs on his kitchen counter, including the anti-anxiety drug Xanax, sources said. Goldstein was on his stomach with the bag of crack underneath him, suggesting he rolled on top of it before he died, a source said. (New York Daily News)
Following the crash, AM linked with Jay-Z for a series of concerts.
Less than a month after walking away from a fiery jet crash in Columbia, South Carolina, that killed four people and left him with second- and third-degree burns to his face and left arm, DJ AM performed Wednesday (October 15) night, joining rapper Jay-Z for a concert celebrating the reopening of the Hollywood Palladium in California which has made headlines over the past month.
