Jay-Z recently spoke on the motivation behind his highly-anticipated The Blueprint 3 album and explained why the project, in his words, should be labeled a "new classic."

Hov also discussed his LP-making process.

"I don't think [the year-long wait] changed the music any," Jay said in the October 2009 XXL Magazine. "You can look at it both ways. The Blueprint was all natural. You could tell the rawness of the spontaneous thoughts -- It's just process...I don?t think The Blueprint was bad. But this album has to come out. It's just really cohesive. It feels really good...I keep using this phrase 'new classic,' because it has classic sounds and instrumentation, like how music was recorded before. That's why the whole album cover [features] white instruments just left in the corner, no color. It's all about the instruments. It feels classic in that approach, but it's new subject matter, new flows. It's not like an Amy Winehouse thing: a take on what was already done. I mean, if you listen to 'D.O.A.' just the sax alone, those type of sounds. The subject matter is right now. It's a hot-button issue right now." (XXL Magazine)

Swizz Beatz, who is featured on the album, recently spoke on working with Jay-Z.

"I've been kicking since '98," Swizz said in an interview. "That's what I told Hova, 'We did it in '99, and we 'bout to do it in '09.' That's a blessing. I've been around...I like the album...He gotta say a lot. You know who to come through for the gutter [beats]. He just called me from London, spazzin'. Me and Jay, we're so much into the art of music, and we're great friends. This album, we happened to get into a little bit. That sh*t is super fun. We're still working." (MTV)

Prior to the album leaking this week and Hov streaming it online for free via Rhapsody and MTV, the rapper spoke with DJ Drama earlier this summer about Blueprint 3's release.

"Yeah, pretty much [it's done]," Jay revealed last July. "You know I still tweak it. I made 'PSA' [and it] was the last record I made on The Black Album and 'Give It To Me' was the last record I made on Dynasty. So, I'm always open to recording new records. It's pretty much done, it could go out the door right now. September 11th, the first date, it's the anniversary of the original one, of course it's a tragedy as well so we're going to be doing a lot of great things with charities and everything." Although it will not be available at retail stores for another week, Hov has provided fans with a free stream-only version of Blueprint 3.

Rhapsody and MTV are the exclusive places to hear the new Jay-Z album, The Blueprint 3, starting September 1, nearly two weeks prior to official release date -- Rhapsody will be the exclusive retailer for The Blueprint 3 from September 8-10, prior to official September 11 release date -- Two exclusive bonus tracks will be available from Rhapsody on September 8 -- Rhapsody collaborates with Jay-Z on TV advertisements promoting the new album -- Rhapsody to premiere a 60-second customized Jay-Z advertisement in 2009 MTV VMAs.
