Responding to assumptions made from an internet preview of his "Larry King Live" interview, Chris Brown insists that he does recall his assault on Rihanna and suggests viewers watch the entire interview before making judgements.
In addition to describing the preview's editing, Breezy explained the upcoming televised interview's set-up.
"There have been reports on the Internet that I didn't remember what happened that night with Rihanna," a statement from Brown read. "I want to try and set things straight. That 30 seconds of the interview they used of me was taken from a one-hour interview during which that same question was asked something like four or five times -- and when you look at the entire interview, you will see it is not representative of what I said. The first four times -- I gave the same answer, which was that I didn't think it was appropriate for me to talk about what happened that night. I said it was not right for me and it really wasn't fair to Rihanna. The fifth time -- I just misspoke. I was asked, 'Do you remember doing it?' and I said, 'No.' Of course I remember what happened. Several times during the interview, my mother said that I came to her right afterwards and told her everything. But it was and still is a blur. And yes, I still can't believe it happened because it is not me or who I am, nor is what happened like anything I have ever done before." (MTV)
The 30-second preview landed online Monday morning.
In a brief preview of the already taped episode, which is set to air September 2, Chris, dressed in a blue sweater and bow tie, appears alongside his mother Joyce Hawkins and attorney Mark Geragos for the no holds barred interview where he admits he doesn't remember the attack. (Neon Lime Light)
CNN, the network airing the special, also released excerpts from the interview.
"We have to be like 10 yards away from each other," he says. "When I look at it now, it's just like, wow, like, I can't -- I can't believe that -- that actually happened. On his sentencing, Brown says that "everything comes with consequences. They want me to pick up trash remove graffiti...I'm a hard worker. It's something I'm willing to do." Chris also talks about his life with his abusive father. "I used to be scared to go to bed," he recalls. "Nobody taught us how to love one another. Nobody taught us a book on how to how to control our emotions or our anger...I wish I could have changed that night." "I just need to prove to people I can be a role model," Brown says. "That's not who I am as a person, and that's not who I promise I want to be." Chris says he misses Rihanna and admits he's not sure how to deal with her dating other guys. "I definitely would be affected by it, but, at the end of the day, I mean, we're not together, so, if she's happy, I'm cool...We'll always be friends." (CNN)
Brown's upcoming special will air Wednesday (September 2).
