Young Money's Nicki Minaj recently spoke on her relationship with Lil Wayne and how she may have a Rebirth collaboration with Weezy.
Describing their studio sessions, Minaj also explained how her recording skills have advanced since she was first put on.
"Usually in the beginning Wayne would have an idea and I would just write a verse around Wayne's idea," she explained. "However, for the new stuff that you guys haven't heard yet that will probably be on Wayne's Rebirth and the Young Money compilation album -- I went in there and chose beats, did the hook, and wrote my verse. Wayne then came in and loved it and he added his stuff on it, so it all depends on who vibes to the beat first and feels something. I know if I like something I can get an idea in two and a half seconds. So the great thing about Wayne is sometimes he laughs at my crazy a**, because I have these crazy bizarre ideas and he'll be like 'h*ll no'. He's a lot of fun and he's very funny, but on a serious note whenever I do something that I really love he usually says 'Yea, I f*ck with it Nicki.' He allows me to be me and he doesn't really tweak me too much. He doesn't say no, or tell me to re-write stuff, or anything like that. He just allows me to be me and that's what I love about him." Drake recently spoke on his studio time with Weezy and their competitive nature.
"Someone would really have to come to the studio to see me and Wayne together and how we work," Drake said in an interview. "It's the same sort of thing. I fear Wayne's creativity. It's endless. It's a scary beast. He never takes one day off. When we get into the studio it is very competitive, but in a good way. You can't just use a line you wrote Tuesday. Every line has to be thought out." Nicki previously spoke on the motivation Wayne provides her as a female emcee.
"Wayne has always been my biggest influence," she explained in an interview. "It's weird because I sit down and talk to Wayne like he's just a regular human being, and then I walk on stage with him and there's 20,000 people screaming for him. I think it puts it into perspective for me like, Wait a minute, this is actually attainable." (Vibe)
She is also hitting the road for select dates on Weezy's America's Most Wanted tour and recently shared her reaction to Drake's on-stage collapse last week
"I had to watch him get carried out on a stretcher," Nicki explained in an interview. "I grabbed and shut his hands like 'You'll be okay baby.' He's fine, he's not gonna be here today, he has to get surgery. At the end of the day, his physical well-being is more important...People keep asking me that, I'm officially on the tour. I've been on the tour since day one. There might be a couple days I don't just because I have personal obligations but I'm on the tour. I can't wait to see everybody come out and have fun."
