Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne's Young Money Presents: America's Most Wanted tour, which features Young Jeezy and Soulja Boy Tell Em, has had its Canada show tonight (August 17) canceled due to unusual circumstances.
The rapper was scheduled to perform this evening, however, a statement from concert promoter Live Nation has said the show was shut down.
Tonight's Lil Wayne concert at GM Place has been canceled. "The Lil Wayne show has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond Live Nation's control," the promoter said in a news release. The rapper last performed in Vancouver in January. Lil Wayne, who dominated rap music at the 2009 Grammys winning four awards, was to share the bill with Young Jeezy, Soulja Boy and Drake. Fans who planned to attend will reportedly receive refunds for their purchased tickets.
The only other information available at this time is that ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase. Tickets purchased through a credit card will be refunded automatically, according to Live Nation's release. According information posted on a Live Nation Twitter account, the crew's Edmonton show scheduled for August 18 has also been canceled. Lil Wayne last performed in Vancouver in January 2009. Boot Camp Clik's Buckshot recently spoke with SOHH and called out Live Nation's lack of hip-hop knowledge when dealing with rap artists.
"Motherf*ckers are so scared of Live Nation because you can say 'F*ck Rock the Bells' but don't say 'F*ck Live Nation,'" Buck explained. "Because if you say 'F*ck Live Nation,' you might not be able to do a show -- so f*ck Live Nation. I said it, Buckshot said it, f*ck you. How about that, Buckshot said it...and you know why? Because I'm that n*gga. I am that n*gga. I'm a n*gga that'll go against the corporate beast all day, everyday. So f*ck all the rest of these rappers out here, not just f*ck them, f*ck everybody whose scared. F*ck you if you're scared. I'll say it for you, Live Nation is a corporation of people that don't know nothin' about hip-hop music or nothin'. They just a bunch of corporate people that lock down the circuit -- so we can't have a show unless it goes through Live Nation. We can't get a concert unless it's Live Nation." (SOHH)
The tour has made headlines since launching last month with guest appearances by artists including Chris Brown who came out during a Virginia show.
Chris sang "Every Girl" and apparently enjoyed the set as he was seen smiling and dancing energetically alongside the tour's original performers. During the August 2 live gig, Chris did not only sing but also managed to moonwalk when Michael Jackson's song "Billie Jean" was played on-stage. To the concertgoers, Weezy shouted, "Ya'll make some noise for the new Michael." (Ace Showbiz)
50 Cent also made his way to the stage over the weekend during Soulja Boy's set in California.
"Okay, you're right," Fif told the screaming crowd as he prepared to perform. "What's up? I'm in that 760 leanin when I'm stuntin'/I blow 50 G's, I mean with ease like this is nothin'/Please don't interrupt me when I'm talkin to my jeweler/He's puttin them diamonds all over my Franck Muller/Me I get busy, I put that work in if it's worth it/Come through hit you up, I'll make a crime scene perfect" (YouTube)
The tour will reportedly miss both Canada dates and resume on Thursday (August 20) in Denver.
