Jay-Z has revealed the concept behind his The Blueprint 3 single, "Run This Town," and offered fans behind-the-scenes footage of his upcoming music video premiere which features Kanye West and Rihanna.
Focusing on the concept of growth, Jay compared the record to the career of an artist.
"The song is pretty much about evolution and the progress," Hov said in a teaser video. "You know, you start out as a new artist, you make your way into the game and you climb that mountain and you get to the top and put your flag down. And that's pretty much us putting our flag down. 'This is Roc Nation, pledge your allegiance,' put your flag at the top of the mountain and say we run this town." (YouTube)
A minute-long preview of the upcoming video landed online last Friday (August 14).
Premiering online Friday afternoon is Jay-Z's "Run This Town" music video sneak peek which shows very quick snap shots giving viewers a dungeon-like feel. Jay-Z is shown wearing what appears to be a black hoody and shades alongside Kanye West as additional extras surround them with torches. The preview gives off a militant feel as various people with objects in their hands pump their fists to the air with Rihanna laying the hook in her all-black attire. Additional hints of the video's setting come towards the end as messages read "Where Are We? Underground?," "Angry Touch Wielding Mob," "Jay Runs This Mob Tonight," 'Ye Is Jay's Right Hand Man," "Kanye's Eye?," "Rihanna: Queen Of The Underground" and "Jay's Going Incognito...But Why?" Stylist June Ambrose reported from the music video's set earlier this month, however, she kept details to a minimum.
"I can't tell you what I'm working on, this is a very big undercover job with three huge blockbuster hit stars," she said in a video. "And I'm going to tell you, this job is going to be absolutely outrageous. We have tons of security, major trailers over here...We're in an undisclosed place, I don't know what to expect." All three artists were recently confirmed to perform the single for television host Jay Leno's new show premiere next month.
Jay first broke the news of the impressive lineup to Access Hollywood's Shaun Robinson following Wednesday's NBC Television Critics Association panel in Pasadena, California. "I always come on strong!" he said when Shaun asked about the trio performing on Jay's first show on Monday, September 14. (Access Hollywood)
