Drake has informed fans of his status on the Lil Wayne tour after making headlines over the weekend for an on-stage injury and confirmed reports of having undergone surgery.
Writing via his personal blog, Drizzy went into full detail regarding his situation and promised his rap motivation remains unchanged despite his recent popularity.
"This bottle of Opus One is low but my spirits are high my friends," Drake wrote. "I am about 2 hours away from Toronto, CA where I will be spending the next chunk of time recovering from a surgery that I now must have. I embarked on this tour with a torn ACL, MCL, and LCL and due to the events that happened the other night lord only knows what other damage I have done. On the bright side I will begin the reflecting and soul searching that its going to take to make this album and my outfit on the night I fell was crack. I will forever push myself beyond the limits despite advice and recommendations given because even with this new found success I am still the kid who wanted this more than anything in the world. Its funny when I read comments from previous fans who have lost interest because of the radio play and exposure I have. I just want to assure anyone reading that nothing has changed on my end. I refuse to get comfortable, I refuse to fall in line and follow anyone elses formulas. I still work as if So Far Gone had never dropped and I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to gain entry to this game." (October's Very Own)
His on-stage injury last Friday (July 31) took place during a joint performance with Weezy in New Jersey.
My girl Marisa is backstage tonite at the "America's Most Wanted" show in Camden, New Jersey and just filled me in on the worst-case scenario that just happened onstage : ( According to her and other witnesses, Drake and Lil Wayne were performing "Best I Ever Had" when Drake was moving across the stage and did a spin move he must have turned his already-injured knee while spinning, because Drake suddenly collapsed on the stage. "He put his head down because he was in so much pain," and then 4 guys ran out on the stage and had to carry him off. Lil Wayne was left onstage in a state of confusion. (Miss Info)
Drake later resorted to Twitter to assure fans of his stable status after the unexpected collapse.
"All is well...," he wrote. "on the bus laying down...getting surgery this week but I'm walking. Thank my whole YM family for the help. Lion Hearts!" (Drake's Twitter)
The rapper previously said he would remain on Wayne's Young Money tour despite doctor's orders of precaution.
"I didn't really get any approval from my doctor, but I made a personal decision 48 hours ago that I'd be letting a lot of people down if I didn't show up and at least show them I'm there for them," Drake said in an interview. "For the last two weeks, I've been really going hard, getting all types of acupuncture, trying to bring the swelling down. I'm walking around -- no cane. I'll put a brace on it tomorrow night. No one will probably even know I'm injured...I'm not doing my own set. That's one thing I have to apologize to my fans about. It's too much of a risk, if I hit that wrong turn [doing] 30 minutes every night. If I tear my ACL again, the doctors say I might not be able to walk again. I have to be cautious." (MTV)
Footage of the incident landed online over the weekend.
