News: Asher Roth On Jay-Z & Eminem VMA 2009 Face-Off, "I've Got A 20 Percent Chance"

Asher Roth has shared his reaction to receiving two nominations for MTV's upcoming Video Music Awards next month and competing against nominees like Jay-Z and Eminem.
Nominated for "Best New Artist" and "Best Hip-Hop Video," Roth weighed in on his chance of winning.
"That was a nice little thing to wake up to this morning," he said in an interview. "I've got a 20 percent chance [in each category], so I'll take that. Obviously everybody wants to win, but for the most part the nod is all you really need. It says, 'We appreciate your work.' ...Shooting ['I Love College'] was almost an accident...We just turned the camera lights on and did what we do. It wasn't like, 'Let's try to win a VMA with this one!' But I think that's the beauty of it -- you stay true to form and you get a nod of appreciation." (MTV)
In addition to Em and Jay, Roth will also go head-to-head against Flo Rida and Kanye West.
MTV's Video Music Awards "Best Hip-Hop Video" nominees: Eminem's "We Made You," Kanye West's "Love Lockdown," Jay-Z's "D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)," Asher Roth's "I Love College" and Flo Rida's "Right Round." "Best New Artist" nominees: Lady Gaga, Asher Roth, Drake, 3OH!3 and Kid Cudi. (Press Release)
This year's showcase will be hosted by comedian Russell Brand.
Russell Brand is returning to host the 26th annual MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 13 from Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Last year, the combination of the relatively unknown British comedian with the seemingly never overexposed Britney Spears paid off for MTV as the VMAs pulled in record numbers for the network.
