T.I. will once again be able to see family and friends after a virus scare forced his Arkansas prison to be shut down for over two weeks.
The prison facility was reportedly infected by a virus which had an effect on various inmates.
The visitation was restored Saturday (July 4) after having been suspended more than two weeks ago. Numerous inmates at the low-security unit were sickened by a suspected gastrointestinal virus in mid June. Visits were suspended for 18 days. The prison's executive assistant R.D. Weeks said 158 of the 2,075 inmates reported symptoms, along with several correctional staff members. One inmate did test positive for norovirus. (WXVT News)
Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson Traci Billingsley confirmed the virus' existence last month.
A number of inmates recently became ill and have been treated at the prison, said Traci Billingsley. The symptoms appear to dissipate within 48 to 72 hours, she said. "Swine flu is not suspected because these all are all gastrointestinal-related," Billingsley said. They will resume when medical personnel are certain there is no risk of exposure, Billingsley said. The prison in Forrest City is a low-security facility housing male inmates, including rapper T.I., who is serving a yearlong sentence on a weapons charge. (The Morning News)
Grand Hustle's DJ Drama previously addressed rumors which claimed Tip had been infected.
"Nah, I haven't talked to Tip directly," Drama explained in an interview. "But I was up at the office the other day and he's good. There were some rumors going on about some sickness or something that happened at the prison but all that's false, I know he's good. He's getting all the letters people are writing him and everything. Tiny has been up there multiple times even though he says he don't want nobody to come up and see him. I'm curious though, I definitely wanna know his reaction to the Michael Jackson situation, him passing and even in general you know. You think about all of the people locked up feeling the same way. Tip is good. He'll be home sooner than later. You know what I mean, get right back to work." (Mr. Peter Parker Show)
T.I. turned himself in to authorities in late May.
Rapper T.I. reported to a federal prison in Arkansas Tuesday (May 26) after a court imposed deadline to begin serving a weapons conviction...A federal prisons spokesman said after the deadline that Harris was not listed in custody. It's not clear if Harris will face any sanctions for apparently missing the deadline. Harris could face more than eight years in prison if he does not meet terms of his plea deal. (Associated Press)
Tip is currently scheduled to be released from prison in 2010.
