All Points West music festival organizers explain how Jay-Z came on as a last-minute replacement for the Beastie Boys and saved the show.

After finding out that the Beastie Boys wouldn't be able to perform, festival organizers were faced with the daunting task of finding a suitable replacement.

"After being sad, because Adam has been such a close part of our company and everything it dawned on us like, 'Wow, headliner in less than ten days.' It's tough. I've never dealt with that before," Paul Tollett of Goldenvoice, the event organizer, told SOHH. "We went right to the top. Let's start at the thing that makes the most sense. Someone from Brooklyn that's huge. Beastie Boys go out and to replace with Jay-Z would be a dream come true. We told the plan to the Jay-Z camp... it took them a couple of days and they came back and said we're able to do it. It's hard. It's not just Jay-Z coming you got to get a whole stage show together. It's kind of a miracle." (SOHH)

The Beastie Boys were forced to cancel their appearance when member Adam "MCA" Yauch was diagnosed with cancer.

Jay-Z will make his first American festival appearance at All Points West in Jersey City on July 31, festival organizers announced late Wednesday (July 22). He is a nearly-last-minute replacement for the Beastie Boys, who said on Monday that they were canceling all their concert dates. The organizers of All Points West -- a three-day event in Liberty State Park that also features Tool, Coldplay and dozens of other bands -- said in their announcement that refunds -- based on this news -- will be available for the July 31 show only. News of MCA's cancer was initially announced via a statement from EMI Music.

Yauch was diagnosed last week as having a cancerous tumor in his left parotid (salivary) gland. Luckily it was caught early and is localized in one area, and as such is considered very treatable. It will however require surgery and several weeks of additional treatment. Fortunately the cancer is not in a location that will affect Yauch's vocal chords. Beastie Boys have canceled all upcoming concert appearances to allow time for Yauch's surgery and recovery. The release of the band's forthcoming album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 will also be pushed back. (Statement)

A new Jay-Z single featuring Rihanna and Kanye West landed online Friday (July 24) morning.

"This is Roc Nation/Pledge your allegiance...All black everything/Black cards, black cars, all black everything/And I draw them black birds/Riding with they Dillingers/I'll get more in depth if you boys really real enough/This is La Familia/I'll explain later, but for now let me get back to this paper...Please follow the leader/So Eric B. we are/Microphone fiend, it's the return of the God/Peace God, it ain't nobody fresher...On the table screaming f*ck the other side, they jealous/We got a banquet full of broads/They got a table full of fellas/And they ain't spendin' no cake."
