Grammy-winning singer Ne-Yo has broken his silence and explained why he had to cancel his Manchester performance last night (July 16) after appearing on-stage in tears.

Writing via a blog entry, Ne-Yo promised his reasons for calling off the performance were justified.

"Basically, I have an issue with not knowing when to say enough is enough, so last night in Manchester, my body said it for me," he wrote. "I got on stage energized and ready to go, even tho for the last 5 days I've been dealing with a sinus infection. I paid it no real mind, and kept on going, like I always do. My voice couldn't take it. From the first song I knew something was wrong. I shoulda stopped there, but I come from a school where no matter what, the show must go on...I've never had to stop a show, never dreamed I'd ever have to. So when I had to walk out on that stage and tell 12,000 of the people responsible for making me who I am that I could not perform for them, it literally broke my heart. I cried harder than I have in a very long time with no shame whatsoever...To anyone out there that would like to question my manhood because of this I'll say this to you: If the one thing you cared about more than anything else in the world was threatened or even taken from you, if you knew that the people you cared for the most you had to disappoint and it was your fault... and this didn't spark some kind of emotional outbreak within you...then with no shame I'll say you are truly a stronger man than I." The singer made headlines last night when footage of him on-stage appeared online today (July 17).

"I've never not completed a show -- I've never done this before," he told the crowd in between wiping away tears. "I want to say...I want to thank y'all for bearing with me as long as y'all did, I appreciate that...Trust me when I say I will be back...I will be back. I love y'all." (E! Online)

He was reportedly set to perform a Michael Jackson tribute.

According to audience members, Ne-Yo looked like he was struggling through the first half-hour of his set, which included a Michael Jackson tribute, but he soon began noticably sweating, and then crying. He finally told his audience that although he had never failed to complete a show, he simply could not go on with this one. In a YouTube clip of Ne-Yo's performance, he is shown wiping his eyes repeatedly and looking distressed while the audience cheers wildly. According to one witness, the show's promoter promised that the incomplete performance would be rescheduled. (Prefix Mag)

Aside from music, the singer was recently chosen to star in a new George Lucas film.

Lucasfilm said Red Tails, about the all-black crew, would star Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding Jr., Nate Parker and Bryan Cranston. Other cast members include Tristan Wilds, Cliff Smith (better known as Method Man) and Ne-Yo. The film is to be directed by Anthony Hemingway and written by John Ridley. (New York Times)
