Maino has hinted at a possible reality show he is preparing which will focus on him introducing someone to his lifestyle as a rapper.
While details are still scarce, Maino spoke with radio personality Angela Yee about some of the program's details and what fans could expect if it lands on television.
"It's 90 percent solidified," he said. "This is why I haven't really spoke on it because it's not etched in stone yet. But there's something reality-based and around MTV 'ish. It's about a white dude, he doesn't come from my culture. He doesn't understand the rap game, he doesn't understand what it means to be a rapper everyday. He lives with me and tries to like, understand what goes on in our world...Nothing I do is scripted. So if you see smack somebody then maybe it's really going down." (Shade 45 Lip Service)
Aside from the possible show, Maino's debut album If Tomorrow Comes... was released last week.
Based on one-day estimates, rising Def Jam/IDJ R&B star Jeremih sees his self-titled debut with 45-50k, thanks to the strength of the multi-format smash, "Birthday Sex." Atlantic Brooklyn rapper Maino's debut, If Tomorrow Comes..., will bow with between 18-23k, while Def Jam/IDJ Florida hip-hop newcomer Ace Hood's sophomore album Ruthless appears headed for the same sales territory. The rapper recently spoke with SOHH about his upcoming music video with Swizz Beatz called "Million Bucks" and its concept.
"It was crazy," he explained. "When Swizz first played it for me I said, 'Come on Swizz, I don't got a million dollars man.' He said, 'Nah, but I got a million dollars.' And we laughed. I found a way to be me without trying to look like I was more rich than what I was portraying. I didn't want to come off like I'm more richer than what I really am. It's a song about trying to spread love in the hood and giving back so I made it more or less like that." (SOHH)
In addition to Maino's projected new show, rappers Plies and Jadakiss have also been tagged to launch their own reality shows later this year.
"I got this show coming on BET finding a new deejay," Jada said in an interview last spring. "I'm gonna go to Chicago, Miami, Cali, Atlanta, Philly. Pick some males and females, bring 'em back to [Yonkers, New York] and put 'em in the house and make 'em do some P.Diddy sh*t and see what happens...I'll make 'em dig in some crates and find some wax, see who can really rock two turn tables...See if they can make a beat...And then whoever wins can really become my deejay and go out on tour with me. We'll probably start recording in two or three weeks or so...Nowadays the rap game is just a stepping stone to do other things." (iHipHop)
No further information on Maino's reality show has been released.
