News: Katt Williams Dodges Bullet, Security Guards Face Gun Charges
Friday, Jul 24, 2009 1:00PM
Comedian Katt Williams has reportedly had gun charges against him dropped this week which stem from an arrest last fall.
Reports of the charges being dropped landed online late last night (July 23).
Williams is officially off the hook -- the two weapons possession charges he faced in New York City have been rejected by the D.A. Sources tell us the charges -- filed against Katt back in November after cops allegedly noticed two guns in his car -- were dismissed because the D.A. wouldn't be able to prove them beyond a reasonable doubt at trial. Prosecutors handling the case also confirmed Williams being in the clear.
A spokeswoman for the district attorney said prosecutors moved Thursday to have the case dismissed because they "can't prove the charges beyond a reasonable doubt." Defense lawyer Charles Ross said prosecutors learned the guns were legally registered in other states to two men who were with Williams. Ross said he was "pleased that the DA's office did the right thing." (Associated Press)
Despite the comedian not facing charges, his security guards are reportedly being sought after.
A probe found the weapons were registered out-of-state to two of Williams' security guards, sources said. The guards still face charges, but weapons possession charges against Williams were dropped. (New York Daily News)
Williams was arrested on weapons charges late last year in New York City.
He was arrested last November, as he was on his way to his show at Carnegie Hall. Police reportedly found three guns in both a Cadillac Escalade SUV and a Dodge minibus belonging to him. Williams managed to perform after posting bail. The comedian was admitted to a psychiatric facility a week following the incident and stopped performing at the end of 2008. (WPIX News)
