News: Jermaine Dupri & Janet Jackson Call It Quits, "Shouldn't Mix Business W/ Pleasure"

Hip-Hop couple Jermaine "JD" Dupri and Janet Jackson have reportedly parted ways after being together for over seven years.
The unexpected move made headlines shortly after Michael Jackson's recent memorial.
On July 7, Michael Jackson's family gathered to celebrate him at his much-watched memorial service. Noticeably absent? Janet Jackson's longtime music-exec boyfriend, Jermaine Dupri. (A pal says Dupri skipped the memorial because he "doesn't attend funerals.") And for good reason. "His friends are telling people it's over," a source tells the new issue of Us Weekly, on stands now. Echoes another: "They have been moving in different directions for a while." (Us Magazine)
Insiders close to both parties pointed out the difficulty of JD having a hand in both Jackson's personal life and music career.
"You shouldn't mix business with pleasure," a friend of the former couple told the mag. "Janet felt their lives were too crossed and they should have kept things separate." (MSBNC)
However, both artists were reportedly spotted together prior to Michael Jackson's memorial.
Two days before the Staples Center tribute, Dupri and Jackson were spotted together grabbing a bite to eat at a burger stand at the Malibu Country Mart. "They seemed like they were still together," an eyewitness says. Reps for Jackson and Dupri are not commenting today. So, where are the two now? (E! Online)
JD has played a role in the singer's music career over the past few years.
Dupri produced some of the tracks on Janet Jackson's last two albums, and she felt their lives were too intertwined. They also have very different personalities. "Jermaine likes to be out there, mingling with everybody, and Janet's more shy," a mutual friend said of the pair. But if Janet is upset about the demise of her relationship, she has other, arguably more important things to worry about. "She's devastated," an insider said regarding her reaction to Michael's death. "She's busy caring for Michael's kids. Janet's the family's backbone." (New York Daily News)
