Lil Wayne has chosen to lace up with the Los Angeles Lakers and their star player with the release of his NBA Finals-based tribute song "Kobe Bryant."

Joining the likes of other Laker fans, including Jack Nicholson, the rapper's new record dropped hours before yesterday's Finals opener and focuses on his comparisons with Kobe.

"Kobe 'doin' work', 2-4 on my shirt," Weezy raps. "He the greatest on the court, and I'm the greatest on the verse....2-4 so nice, my flow so mean/Catch me at the game sittin' next to Goldstein/Kobe Bryant Nikes, purple, gold strings/Kobe in the game, homie you know who the team/'Black Mamba,' attack, conquer/basketball Weez, rap monster/cross over good, or turn around jumper/Or I'll just drive the lane and dunk on dunkers/You know where it's going, it's going down yo/This is the late show, but don't drown though/I call him King Bryant, not let the crown show." ("Kobe Bryant")

Kobe's Lakers, in turn, went on to win their first game Thursday (June 4) night.

Throughout their run to the NBA Finals, the Orlando Magic made a habit of sticking around every time it looked like they might be finished. That is worth remembering in the wake of the 100-75 blowout loss they endured Thursday against the Los Angeles Lakers in the opening game of the championship series. (Tampa Tribune)

Earlier this year, Weezy published a blog posting on his Finals predictions and support for Kobe.

"Anyway, so now we're looking at a Lakers versus Cavaliers final, and that's going to be amazing," Wayne wrote last April. " Kobe won't get the best of LeBron [James], but the Lakers will get the best of the Cavs. I'll be rooting for the Lakers, and LeBron already knows that. So it's not like I'm gonna show up in a Kobe jersey and make 'Bron Bron cry. He knows I've been a Laker fan my whole life so it's all good. That don't mean he likes it, but he ain't gonna cry when he sees me at the games screaming for Pau Gasol and Trevor Ariza. (ESPN)

Aside from sports, Wayne's upcoming album The Rebirth was recently pushed back to August.

April 7. May 19. June 9. June 16. June 23. July 21. Lil Wayne's Rebirth is hitting the road once again. After constant delays, Weezy's venture into rock has moved to August 18, Rap-Up.com can confirm. The album had most recently been scheduled for July 21. This is the sixth pushback for a project that was originally set for April. (Rap-Up)
