Academy Award-winning singer Jamie Foxx recently spoke on the overall message behind Jay-Z's controversial "Death of Autotune" and said the rapper's legacy in hip-hop speaks for itself.
While known for his autotune-based hit "Blame It," Foxx broke down his interpretation of Jigga's "D.O.A."
"Autotune is not dead but that's Jay-Z and I understand what he's doing in the hip-hop world," Foxx explained in an interview. "He's challenging those guys who are simply relying on it and you know that's what hip-hop is...But for Jay-Z, he's a god when it comes to hip-hop. So I'ma ride with him no matter what. I don't think the song is meant to tell everyone that's using autotune to stop what they're doing because you can't stop a movement. Everything runs its course, but when it comes to real emcees, Jay-Z never has to do another record in his life...Even with 'Blame It' with as good as it is right now, 'Blame It' will never hold a candle to 'Allow me to re-introduce myself...'" Southern rapper Slim Thug recently shared his thoughts on the record.
"I'm really just out there like not giving a f*ck.," Slim explained in an interview. "So it's gonna be hard for me to find a decent single that could actually go on the radio. Sh*t like Jay-Z's 'D.O.A' sh*t, I feel him on that. N*ggas is too soft right now. It's all about the girls. It ain't used to be like that. It used to be about everything else, the streets. And that's what it's about with me. I'm just trying to keep that sh*t alive." (Vibe)
Fabolous previously spoke with SOHH about his reaction to the song.
"Jay-Z is like the so to say trend killer if he states that something is done," said Fab. "Certain people may feel that way but never say it...but Jay, he'll take the stand and everybody be feelin' that way and be like, 'Yeah Jay's a hero for saying what we've been feeling.' I think what Jay is trying to do is help people get back to the talent of rapping. Let's get some artistry back in the music, some good writing. I think 'Death of Autotune' is dope. I think it's good for the climate too. At some point a lot of these kids, artists are coming out and they're just putting this autotune on their voice... I guess Jay is just tired of everybody jumping on that bandwagon. I kinda was over it too." (SOHH)
Jay has reportedly begun filming the music video for "D.O.A."
"On the set of Jay-Z's video for 'D.O.A.' at secret location shhh," Nelly of SecretLifeBaby wrote via Twitter yesterday (June 16).
