Rapper-turned-actor Common has been chosen to star in the upcoming romantic sports movie Just Wright co-starring Paula Patton.

Common will also share screen time with Queen Latifah.

Fox Searchlight has tapped rapper-turned-actor Common (Terminator Salvation) as the lead opposite Queen Latifah in sports romancer Just Wright, with Sanaa Hamri directing. Paula Patton has also been cast. Latifah, Shakim Compere and Debra Martin Chase are producing. Shooting starts in mid-July in New York for a release next year. (Variety)

While details are still developing, the film will reportedly center on the life of a basketball player.

Script, penned by Michael Elliot, revolves around a sports trainer who finds herself falling in love with a professional basketball player while rehabilitating him from a career-threatening injury. (Theater Mania)

Rapper Lil Wayne is also working on a big budget movie project alongside Forest Whitaker, however, the film is allegedly out of production money.

Sources say the production company that is associated with the film has run out of money and its causing the film to be pushed back further and further. No word has been heard from Weezy's camp or from the production company about the status of Hurricane Season which was set to premiere sometime in late 2009. We will keep you updated when we hear more. (New Lil Wayne)

Other rappers struggling to get their films to the big screen include 50 Cent's Streets of Blood.

We have just confirmed with movie studio Anchor Bay that they have bought the outright film distribution rights to 50 Cent's new movie Streets of Blood. Those in the industry know though that Anchor Bay buys and distributes movies straight to video. For those 50 fans, you might remember that this is the movie where 50 and co-star Val Kilmer formed a strong friendship. (Woooha)

No further information on Just Wright has yet to be announced.
