G-Unit leader 50 Cent recently weighed in on Dr. Dre's long-awaited Detox release and offered his take on the album's ten-year delay.
Claiming the project will feature ten records, Fif shared his thoughts on the upcoming album.
"Dre is actually working," Fif promised in an interview with DJ Enuff. "I heard eight records. When it takes this long, I'ma tell you what I heard. I heard eight and Em said it's ten. So it's probably two I didn't get a chance to hear. I think [the wait] actually builds more pressure. Are you trying to get it or are you trying to scare the sh*t out of 'em? I know, its been taking him a long time. [He's also] so critical of himself at the same time. You know what it is too, I look at it like this. I love some of the things he thinks that are just 'good'... I kinda feel like I can gauge what is necessary at this point...When's the last time you heard a hip-hop record that didn't have an R&B chorus in the Top 10? You understand what I'm saying. It's changing hip-hop music to the point where it's necessary for you to have an R&B artist or perform like an R&B artist on the hook...You can tell the deejay to slow down but when motherf*cking [Black Eyed Peas' ] 'Boom Boom Pow' is No. 1, how you gonna tell the artist what to make?" Eminem recently said Dre's work on Relapse pushed the Doc's album back.
"With Dre, Dre's got a lot of material for this record," Em revealed in an interview last month. "And he's recorded a lot of material. I think that more so than anything, before his album, he basically put aside, he was working on his record for a good time period, I would say probably a year, a year and some change straight, he was working on his record and he basically put that on hold once we got on the road with my record, which I'm extremely grateful for you know." Dre recently appeared in a Dr. Pepper commercial giving fans a sneak peek at one cut from his forthcoming album.
The rap impresario will appear in an ad for a major soda company -- one that has some experience with long-awaited albums that can never possibly live up to your expectations. The clip will start airing on national television June 1. The ad features a bit of Detox, but don't get too excited. It's only about eight seconds of a slow groove, and the crowd seems more interested in getting down with the soda than Dr. Dre. You can view the ad below, but we suggest just waiting until Detox sees release, so you won't forever associate the long-awaited album with some soda pop. It will supposedly be out by the end of 2009. (Los Angeles Times)
Doc previously promised appearances by Lil Wayne and Jay-Z while originally aiming to release Detox late last year.
"In a perfect world, I'm shooting for a November or December release," Dre said in an interview. "I've never set out to do that," says Dre, 43. "I just make the music feel the way I want it to feel and I don't put it out until I'm totally happy with it. Then it does what it does." (USA Today)
As of today (June 18), there is no release date for Detox.
